In a time when our state is in need of nurses, why would such a contemptuous and humiliating program be implemented and executed to do more harm than good to these healthcare professionals who are in a profession they love and only want to help our sick, our old, and our less fortunate? Nurses have stressful, emotionally draining jobs with erratic hours, yet push on to help others. I understand that this program was designed as an alternative to a punitive disciplinary process; however, the lack of a checks and balances system is and will continue to do more harm than good. When a nurse can be easily accused and subsequently given an ultimatum of enlisting in a program that costs thousands of dollars or face possible loss of their license, there is a serious problem that is not being addressed when a pragmatic solution is required. Unfair treatment of nurses, which is likened to that of criminals is despicable. This is a grave injustice that needs to be undone with haste. These healthcare professionals deserve honor and a voice in a fight for a fair recourse that actually helps those impaired without costing them outrageous amounts of money, their careers, and ultimately their livelihood. Many states have programs that are sensible and don't create further hardships such as those funded by nurses' licensure fees. Therefore, as a concerned citizen, I call on our elected officials to rectify a wrong put in place that has proven only to hurt more than any other good intention.Mar 19th, 2015Someone from Harrisburg, PA signed.
