Are there not tons of other budget cuts to be made? Do NOT cut them from our veterans! There is no one in this country more deserving to pursue their lifelong dream, and receive the much needed financial assistance, than those who have selflessly put their life on line in a combat zone for this country. This sickens me.Aug 22nd, 2015Someone from San Antonio, TX signed.

This is outrageous! We have all earned the right to go through this course and limiting our education funding is only hurting the entirety of the veterans. If you want to cap it fine. But cap it at 50,000 a year that way schools can no longer take advantage. Or just put the schools that abused the system out of business and let the schools who didn't abuse it continue to help your veterans. Why would congress try to hurt the education of those who served to protect them so they can sit there and make decisions?REPORT COMMENTS

The Aviation community is already experiencing a severe shortage of pilots due to the increased requirements to hold an ATP certificate by Congress. The proposed Cap will not permit future veteran flight students to be able to complete their curriculum in a reasonable timeframe. This Cap on VA benefits for those of us who have served the Country and want to use the benefits allotted to us is unfair and discriminatory based on the actions of 2 knucklehead flight operators trying to milk the system. Penalize the bad actor programs, and not the whole flight training industry that provides VA services to veterans. If the air operations industry is to survive and have affordable products, don't cause a further shortage by preventing Veterans from being able to pursue their dreams of flight. Flight training is already expensive enough, and forcing recently separated veterans to pay more when they already likely don't have the resources is simply not a good way to serve those that have already served the country Honorably.REPORT COMMENTS

This bill should not be passed. I intend to use my benefits to become a Helicopter Pilot. I didn't serve my country in order to be denied an opportunity to use my benefits.REPORT COMMENTS

The primary issue brought up by this Congressman and other like-minded individuals, as evidenced by the various borderline hostile articles posted by the media found via a simple Google search, is that the taxpayers are getting "saddled" with all of this debt for paying Veterans' flight training. One article called out that a student "racked up" $500,000 in flight training costs. As a Private Pilot and aspiring military aviator, I can assure you that flight training isn't cheap. While the above claim may be true, I'm sure it's a rarity. Also, at any given time, there might be a few hundred veterans across the country actively seeking commercial helicopter/rotor wing certificates. One article stated there are about 680 full time helicopter pilot students in the US -- at any given time. Do the math, it's not that much money when compared to the BILLIONS we waste on foreign aid and nearly countless other federal programs that are completely worthless. I would say this money is being used well because if anyone in Congress is paying attention, this country is on the precipice of a severe pilot crisis. If we don't hatch a plan to solve it soon, the US economy will suffer as a result. Period. This program needs to be supported by EVERYONE 100%. All that said, I would support a bill that protected Veterans from having to pay more for flight training than their strictly self-paying civilian counterparts. (This thereby would protect the VA from being exploited and the taxpayers would save some money too.) Flight Schools jacking up the price per hour for training Veteran student is screwed up -- and it's getting the aviation industry some really negative attention, as evidenced by the presentation of this poorly written, poorly conceived bill.REPORT COMMENTS
