This shouldn't even be an issue. Childbirth is one of the reasons we're all here in the first place. Too many children are growing up without proper families as it is; losing them to tragic incidents we can't control. People scramble to help when they hear of tsunamis, and diseases in far away lands, but this is right in front of us and preventable. What's our excuse?REPORT COMMENTS

This issue is not stocking to me. I have seen first hand how an emergency situation arose during childbirth at a hospital in Massachusettes. Luckily for the mother her infant is fine but she is still in therapy for the physical and emotional stress she endured during and after the childbirth.REPORT COMMENTS

To die in childbirth and NOT EVEN become part of a statistic, that's a terrifying and horribly sad concept which is apparently also an alarming truth for too many women. Women's lives matter too, and that should go without saying.REPORT COMMENTS

We research everything else and this is a big deal. But if you will also notice hospitals are sending new mothers home sooner and sooner. When I had my son last year they treated it as a out patient care. I went home within 24 hours of giving birth. Back in 2000 when my sister gave birth it was mandatory she stayed at least 3 days to observe her health. We no longer observe the new mothers health and since then the death rate has increased. Maybe that's something we should be taking into account???REPORT COMMENTS

I can not believe that this is happening in the United States.I was shocked and outraged when I read the report.I guess most women assume that our doctors and hospitals know what they are doing and we put our trust and faith in them to have a safe delivery and after care. That they are doing everything in their power to make sure that we and our babies will not have to suffer unforeseen complications which may result in death during or after childbirth.Giving birth should be a beautiful and most happy time in a women's life and all mothers and their babies should be a protected from the ones we depend upon in the medical field. No need for these tragedies to happen, not in this day and age.And certainly not in the United States!REPORT COMMENTS

Almost 25years ago I worked in L&D&nursery&NICU, I had hope the medical care for mothers would have improved, not become worse. Disgraceful for United States of America to become this bad.Scary for women who want to have babies.REPORT COMMENTS
