Seems to me that coordinating state reporting standards require consistent guidelines to insure good data. Make the reporting requirements simple, economical and easily combined at federal level. Remove the individual state objections up front. Regardless, solving this is vitally important!Sep 23rd, 2015Someone from Richmond Hill, GA signed.

This is sickening news. We need a Pro Life for mother's/women's movement. There is so much noise about Planned Parenthood, but barely a whisper about maternal mortality. What does this country value? That is where the sin lies.REPORT COMMENTS

This is shocking to me. My daughter just had a baby 3 months ago. Her overall health is just as important during her delivery and more so after she has given birth. This is the United States the most advanced medical care is here. Please don't drop the ball on this epidemic, that could be prevented.REPORT COMMENTS

This is very sad that we do not value the lives of women and mothers in this great country of ours. We often hear of politicians focusing on defunding planned parenthood, but never address the mortality rate and health issues of women.REPORT COMMENTS

Please start a protocol like an algorithm for high risk pregnancy, post partum care. as a critical care nurse, I've seen so many post partum deaths. The children end up without their mother. We need to prevent maternal deaths.REPORT COMMENTS

Let's be honest, the reason maternal mortality rates are so high in the U.S. is Money. U.S. hospitals and doctors are not held accountable to report obstetrical related deaths on death certificates to avoid legal prosecution. As stated in the letter above, "6 of our great nation?s states require mandatory reporting of a maternal death and only 21 states have maternal mortality review boards for their state." Shocked by the deplorable U.S. maternal mortality rates?-what would the U.S. numbers be if every state was required to report and the all the data was revealed? OBs should function to address complications and surgical intervention when necessary and allow Midwives to manage the majority of deliveries which occur without need for intervention. Unnecessary OB intervention causes problems in labor. Dr. Robert Mendelshon, MD writes in Confessions of a Medical Heretic: "The only difference between OBs and firemen is that firemen don't start their own fires." Please stop the madness and follow the model of countries with the world's best maternal and infant outcome rates: Midwifery- traditional midwifery.REPORT COMMENTS
