I have worked for over 20 years at my place of employment and our bereavment policy is only 3 days regardless of the family member. When my son died, I could not even think about my job. We need a FMLA for bereaved parents, the way we have leave after the birth of our children, we should also have leave upon their demise.

As our son was murdered, my husband had no time to grieve and returned to work in a weeks time, it took him three years to get thru his grief and brake down. It was like putting it on hold while the world kept spinning out of our control.

Bereavement leave for all losses need to be mandated because businesses simply don't get it. Three days for the funeral just doesn't cut it, and some employees have trouble getting that which is a complete and utter disgrace.

Loss of a young child is one of the most difficult issues parents must face. Please support these needy people.

WOW ! I am so glad you started this petition. I feel that losing a child is much tougher than having a child (which is covered). I was lucky enought to work for a company where I was put on leave under Long Term Disability (I had this & other mental issues as well) but I know many people including myself who would not have been given this opportunity. In the end I gave up my job of 24 years-I would say it was more or less a mutual decision. I couldnt work anymore (alot due to the loss of my son) and definately not up to the unreasonable aspects put on me from my job so in the end I didn't "want" them and it was very obvious they didnt want me. Your petition is a Great Idea and you are welcome to publish my comments. If there is anything I can do to be of assistance feel free to email me..

It is something that should have been included long ago, but it is my honor and privilege to sign my name as a supporter in the hopes that the loss and grief of many can spare many more....
