I lost my son 2 years ago and thankfully I was blessed to have wonderful employers that were willing to give me some time to grieve. Without that time, I don't know what I would have done. Losing a child isn't something that can happen on a Thursday and you can just go back to work on Monday. It is a gut wrenching pain that leaves you unable to function at home, much less in society for awhile. This isn't just an excuse to stay home, it is a need. I think that every parent that loses a child needs some time away to cope without fear of losing their livelihood.
