To make the process standardized and upheld by all 50 states and federaly would be amazing. I am a convicted felon in Virginia and live in Utah I go around in circles. And all I can say isVirginia is VIRGINIA!!!! Ridiculous

After conviction weather jail time or not. People should have there n ackgrounds gone from the public it shouldn't be fair to anyone that hasn't done anything wrong for 2 years or more. One reason you have repeat offenders is cause they can't get work!!!!

all non-violent crimes should completely disappear after 10-15 years and after 5 years records should be sealed. It doesn't make sense that you can be penalized for longer than the original sentence or be given a life sentence for a hot check, etc.

nc has gone to 15 years for non violent felony single convictions before expungement can be considered but I think that's too long. if a person can show that the incident is gone and that is not the person in which they are don't hold them back. better jobs for these people mean better lives, families, and communities!

People grow up. Some stop making the same mistakes and start making better choices. Punish those who continue to break the law. Forgive those who want to side with the law.

After a person has served time and fufilled their commitment to the penal/parole system, they should have so many clean years then have all normal rights returned if they prove they are able to be productive honest members of our society. Those that can't get no such rights! But upon restoration - should be able to vote, get a state licence for whatever, jobs without restrictions or that even show in background check (except to law enforcement of course!), and even if able to prove their legal uprightness - gun rights for hunting and self defense. Maybe not semi-auto multiload/hi capacity rifles or automatic pistols/handguns.... But within reason; a shotgun or hunting rifle. Sincerely, Suzette Day

I go to church try to follow the Lord. Don't cuss, drink, or do drugs. I help everyone I can. Now I'm laid off and can't find a job. My crime is 10 years old I completed all classes made parole my first time up. And completed my sentence and was discharged after 1 year of parole in 2010. This shouldn't be allowed to hinder me this long.

Florida wants me and all convicted felons to wait an additional 5 years to restore my right to vote. That was NOT part of my sentence.

Here is my situation: I used to live and work in Rhode Island. I even went to school in RI, and currently have a master's degree in Public Administration, with emphasis in Policy Policy. During the 2008 recession, I was layoff and applied for unemployment. Got the unemployment and got a part time job while collecting the unemployment. Honestly, I thought that you could work and still collect the unemployment. later I learned that you can collect unemployment and still work, but you will have to report that earning. This is what I did not do. The law came on me very hard and charge me third degree felony because the money in question was over 10,000, and 7 years probation. Never been to jail. For the past 6 and the half years, my education has been useless to me and my family. I have not been working for the past 6 years. I have been doing odd jobs that does not represent me. I have done community work in the state of RI working with AmeriCorp National Services for two unbroken years. I was assigned to an elementary school where I served diligently. Why will the system wouldn't give me second chance. At least let me pay the restitution, serve the probation, but expunge the record so I can be able to find a job and take care of my family. I did not kill some, or hurt another citizen. So I really support this bill so some of us can get back our civil rights . Everybody needs a second chance.
