First-time, non-violent felon at 23 - major marijuana case. Federal - add that to the mix and it's sickening what I went through at just shy of 30 years old when I walked out. 6 months at a privately owned slum/halfway house Keaton Corrections - that's not slander/liable everyone; it's the truth. No other felonies. Because I reside in Florida and it was a major drug charge - I fall into the 7 year list - 7 years from the end of all time served, probation, etc. - before I can even attempt to do anything at all. Once I do that - I can try and get a restoration in Florida - and then, well then - I get to start with the US Department of Justice for 'Clemency' since the President is the only one that could sign my pardon due to the Federal Charges. I could NOT GET A JOB AT MCDONALDS IN THE WORST PART OF JACKSONVILLE - not so much due to the charge - but due to Keaton Corrections and that McDonalds never again hiring a federal person from there due to those clowns showing up and walking into the kitchen to do checks on residents working there like they were supervisors. I got a job at a restaurant at the halfway house - within a month of leaving got another full time job/kept the job at the restaurant for a full year - took 3 days off so that I could live in Jacksonville versus heading back to the same small town upon leaving the halfway house. In the past 6 years - I've worked 2 jobs, 98 percent of that, plus side work + anything legit and honest I could get my hands on - married my wife last March, pay my taxes every year - and yeah, no kids/no break all I do is pay. And I can't vote, hold public office, defend myself or home with anything other than a standard compound bow. I asked FDLE about a concealed weapons permit - I understand I can't have a firearm - but I can have a knife. Nope. I'm a convicted felon I can't get one. So...I can defend my home, family and property with a stick - but if I put that stick in my waistband under my shirt? I go to jail for a concealed weapons violation. Taxation without representation.

Most felons wouldn't go back to jail if it wasn't so hard, if not impossible for them to find work!

A pardon shows society that you are rehabilitated, and are a functioning member of society again. Colorado Revised Statutes 16-17-103 goes on to explain that a pardon removes all disqualifications and disadvantages from a conviction, however most employers will still disqualify someone with a pardon based solely on their background check, regarless that a pardon was issued. If employers are allowed to do this, what is the point of a pardon if you are disqualified from being a functioning member of society? This needs to change. Either employers should be prohibited from discriminating against a person based on a pardoned conviction, or pardons should also include the right to expunge or seal the records of pardoned convictions.

I to have gotten a felony over 25 yes ago and it still follow me to this day I haven't been in trouble since 1991 I think it's really sad that you don't get a second chance you go to prison to get help. Very sad.

It has been over ten years since I was convicted of a non violent felony and when I apply for a job I still have to check the convicted felon box. As soon as the employer sees that, they immediately stop right at that point. It doesn't matter that I am extremely qualified, they no longer want to go any further with my application. This bill would be a blessing and help me in the future when applying for a job.

In 1999, I altered a prescription for painkillers while I was under the influence. I completed my probation and still had an addiction. It wasn't until Hon. Bowler (61st District Kent County) allowed me into his Drug Court. While I was the "worst one he's ever had" (as he states) I graduated and completely changed my life. I started college and attended year round for six consecutive years without a break. During that time, I was raising 3 kids and working on average 50 hours per week. I was graduated on May 2, 2015 from Cornerstone University with a 3.49 GPA. My son, age 24, is a personal banker for Huntington National Bank., my second son is on a full-ride scholarship to Cornerstone University for his amazing basketball skills. He is a junior with a 3.2 GPA. My 16 year old daugher is a certified marksman and sharpshooter. She competes statewide (Michigan) and has plans to serve in the military. I have completely rehabilitated myself and have become an outstanding member of my community. I volunteer with the political races by going door to door for my State Representative Lisa Posthumus Lyons (83rd district). I volunteer in Ionia Michigan at a boarding house for recently released inmate because no one else will rent to them. I am asking how to get a certificate of rehabilitation issued to me so that I may pursue my career. Thank you for your time! Kerri Griffin

I believe any crime felony or not that is in no way violent or involves a weapon of any kind should deprive someone of their 2nd amendment rights. How in the name o fairness can the 2nd amendment alone apply to a felony and not other amendment and rights! I find it incredible. Once the sentence is finished all rights should've restored in my opinion! Too many people are expunged from society for the rest of their lives thanks to a conviction that I know often results with a plea bargain for the reason of fear.

We all make mistakes. We all endure consequences. This bill is great for those who want to move forward in life.

I'm 29 years old and got caught my felony in North Carolina even though my felony isn't 10 years old I still think I deserve my rights back. I did my time came home and changed my life around. My wife is 9yrs in the military and I have 2 kids. I also have a government job. So I have put in a lot of work to get where I am today. But this felony is holding me back from advancing in my career. I go to 2 different colleges one for diesel technician and the other for HVAC/R all while being a father of 2 babies and also being a spouse of the military. I would like to be able to take my son hunting like I was able to do as a child but now I can't because I can't own a firearm. It don't take but once to learn from your mistake and that's all it took for me.

It has been 11 yrs. since my felony conviction, The present Governor of WI. will not grant pardons and if he did most of the laws are for teens or young adults. I am 51 yrs. old and would love to have all my rights under the constitution granted back to me.
