Adding to below my comment . Also yes we have a drug epidemic in our state but also this is one way it starts is a doctor's prescribing these lethal drugs and get you hooked then just can cut you off and force patients to go elsewhere to get whatever they need and then get in trouble and be put in jail because they have been through a doctor who put them on a narcotic for years then can just dismiss you because you did not receive a phone call and we're unavailable at the time they called. People do work, run errands, and also take their kids to places to enjoy and also have fun during summer or just wanna sleep in a little on their day off of work. This is ridiculous and unfair to the patients who do suffer of pain on a daily basis . Doctors should be held accountable of these problems because they make you take these meds but also can just take away. -

I was going to a pain clinic that I was referred to from my regular doctor and I been going to this pain clinic for almost 6 years. Last week they called me and of course it was my day off but I worked late the night before. Also I suffer with a rare disease called narcoleptsy. They called at 7a.m and because u had no idea that they called me until later on around 3:30 pm. By the time our conversation ended and u had to call my regular Doc to tell them what they did to me , pain clinic had said well reason we called you at ua.m. is due to us having to do a random pill count. Never had one the whole 6 years I had been there. Anyhow she says well you have until 400 to get here when we close and if not then your dismissed and won't get no more meds or anything....well of course I had strong emotions of scared, hurt, and what the he'll is happening right now to me. I suffer daily of chronic pain ever since I was a little kid. Well of course I could not drive 30 miles and make it there in 10 min so I asked if I could go to pharmacy and have my meds counted and they also refused that and said no. My theory behind this whole thing is that it is bull crappie that these doctors can get you dependence of and addicted to a pain medication they put you on and then just cut you off because you were not knowing they were gonna call you....also I asked the lady what would of happened if I would a been at work when they called me and I missed the call, and she said the same thing that I would a been dismissed. So anyways now they put me through being scared of what's gonna happen and how I'm gonna get to work and make it through my shift in pain and if I can feed my family. Not only have to miss work from being sick and have to go through all of this pain with none of my meds and on top of it miss work to go detox and miss being with my family because a doctor can just shut you off of something they put you on and got your body immune to and depend on this meds to get you through life out of the pain. In my eyes I understand certain protocols and rules that they give due to the people who due abuse and take advantage of the systems of abusing meds but also don't see how you have to guess when they will call, and if not at home or in bed and miss a call that they can just dismiss you from that????? You don't know when they will call that's why it is random but also gotta live in fear that if you go to store or work or Nothing you gotta do that if you do it then you can be punished and get all meds taken away in a second ...ridiculous and not fair to people like me who actually do struggle and are in pain daily and depend on medication just to get you up out of bed to get on with your day. Another reason I think if they do legalized Marijuana that it would do alot of good....half of the meds a pharmacy give out even just for a sore throat, cholesterol, or any thing else, is just as dangerous if not more than any other drug as in pain meds or illegal drugs on strREPORT COMMENTS

This along with the very strickt rules and pain doctors throwing away patients ,thus having them go "cold turkey" from their narcotic pain meds ,should be illegal. What happened to ,"Do No Harm" and "patients rights"..? we are no loner a free country or citizens. it should be, it's our bodies, our rights to pain meds and we 're the ones whom have to live in them. Most would even agree to signing a legal wavier, not holding the doctors responsible. Everything today is deemed an overdose, even when it isn't and most pain and disabled patients are too sick and don;'t have the ways and means to push these things legally. So, again, there is Not justice for all.The war on drugs isn't working and taking pain meds away from real documented pain patients is just sending more good responsible patients out into the street;especially those whom have the money. But, so many poor and debilitated people like myself, have to become bedridden and suffer in silence. This is just plain EVIL!REPORT COMMENTS

Because the "War On Drugs" is a bloody JOKE and just causes billion$ of dollar$ of taxcattle dollar$ to be poured down a rathole called the "DEA", who will _never_ win the so-called "WAR" on Drugs. The FDA & the DEA justify calling for the medical community to say that opioids "are not suitable for treating chronic pain" because THEY have not had to endure chronic, unrelenting PAIN that destroys a persons will to live. The FDA and the DEA say that Rx opioids caused 17,000+ deaths in the US last year, BUT NOBODY has anything to say or has said anything about the 400,000+ deaths that are caused each year by medical screw-ups! No, just get the "spin-doctors" to say OMG!!! It's "Rx opioids". Please see the 03 May 2016 issue of "The British Medical Journal" article titled "Medical Error-The Third Leading Cause of Death In The US". Medical errors cause over 30 times (400,000) the so-called "torrent of Rx opioid deaths" each year! So, who has sh*t on their faces??? Will the chronic pain patients have to suffer and endure somehow until their suicides increase to the point that they can't be swept under the rug anymore ?!?!REPORT COMMENTS

I had polio as a child and had many surgeries that did nothing more than screwing me up worse than I was already. When I became unable to work about 10-15 years ago and began going to a doctor for chronic pain in my legs, back, and pretty much my entire body I refused to accept narcotic pain meds for the first 5 years. Finally the doctors threatened to stop treating me unless I accepted narcotic pain meds. Over the years I went from 5 mg of oxycodone 4 times a day to 20 mg of oxycodone 6 times a day along with 40mg of opana 3 times a day. It took YEARS for me to arrive at this massive dosage. About a year ago the cut my 20mg oxicodone to 5 a day.... Then 4 a day.... And now this month down to 3 a day, I'm in constant pain which has me very depressed and I feel as if I would actually be better off dead. Why is it that because of some people abusing and misusing pain meds, the rest of us who truly need them just to have a half*****normal life are punished??!! It's not fair!!! I have suffered from osteoarthritis of the jaw for 22 years. I have had six reconstruction surgeries, none of which was successful. Then, in 2012, my left condyle broke, causing even more damage and pain. The top oral-maxillofacial surgeon in my state determined that I need a total jaw replacement surgery and sent a letter of medical necessity to my insurance company, telling them that I have the worst jaw he has ever seen. They denied the surgery, their panel of experts claimed that I have TMJ, although my surgeon explicitly told them I have osteoarthritis and degenerative arthritis in my jaw and facial bones. The pain since then has been so bad that I was taken off of Vicoprofen and put on Percocet. I never abused my prescription pills, nor did I build up a tolerance for them. I always took them as prescribed, sometimes less. Thanks to the hysteria surrounding prescription pain medication, I am now only able to get Tylenol 4, which does NOTHING for my type of pain. I have never felt "high" from my pills, rather I felt able to get out of bed and do basic errands and chores around the house. It is not fair that those of us who are in true pain have to suffer because a few idiots got their hands on pain medication and abused it! The quality of my life has decreased significantly since my Percocet was take away. My doctor is too afraid to even prescribe Lortab or Norco for me. My doctor, the man who sees me face to face, who hears about my suffering and sees what I endure, is the one who should be allowed to decide what medications I am given, not a group of people in a room who have never met me and have likely never suffered from any chronic pain condition. As a result of these actions people will soon be taking copious amounts of OTC drugs or obtaining illegal drugs like heroin to combat pain. People who used to be able to hold down a job will no longer be able to get out of bed from the pain forcing the government to support them. And finally, people who used to fight through their day with their pain barely controlled, will be unable to find relief and the suicide rate for these individuals will skyrocket. I suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia, which is commonly called "suicide disease" because that's mainly how it kills ppl, although it has other ways particularly if like me you got it through botched surgery (not naturally like most cases, traumatic surgery related tn is more painful and slowly damages the entire body when pain isn't treated) and glands were damaged and leak toxins in the bloodstream when they swell up from the tn pain. The toxins damage all organs. Any 9th grade biology student learns pain causes swelling in that area until the pain signal is gone. My body cannot repair this nerve damage. The gland that swells sits on top my jaw joint under my ear and when it swells it presses harder on the painful damaged nerve causing more pain, which causes more swelling...which causes more pain...which causes more swelling. I'm allergic to the main drug used to treat TN tegretol, it gives me "spider web bruises" which luckily I caught very quickly otherwise everyday I took them i'd have a 10% chance of having an aneurism that day. Even if I wasn't prone to the bursting capillaries this drug also messes up your hearing and your mind and many patients end up in the ER crying non stop and don't know why just after 9 days of treatment with this drug. It doesn't respond to anti-inflammatories or steroids bc the pain signals are still present even if the swelling went down enough to lessen some pain, but it doesn't. The pain signal is too strong bc this nerve connects DIRECTLY to the brain stem and is the strongest nerve in the body capable of sending the strongest pain signal the brain can feel. Medication withdrawal from the physical damage it does to the body and the added stress make this vicious pain/swelling cycle 100X faster and by day 2 of no meds I already cannot eat and can feel pain in my whole body head to toe from toxins in my blood which start shutting down kidneys first very rapidly that day or a day or two after. I have textbook perfect blood pressure, pulse, sugar levels when on my pain meds and glands are normal sized not leaking, however by the end of day two my pulse is racing, my bp is skyrocketed so high it looks like I eat rock salt for breakfast lunch and dinner everyday of my life, my pulse and sugar level starts going on a roller coaster ride, on top of that I cannot eat cause the jaw, ear, teeth, gum, face pain is a million times stronger than hunger pains which will go numb after a few days (at one point in time when I had no dr and limited meds I had to set reminders on my phone of what day I ate last and what day I absolutely have to try to eat a few bites of something and in just a few months I dropped from 210 lbs to 130 lbs). By day 3 the combination of withdrawal, 48+ hrs of insomnia/sleep deprivation from pain, and toxins I will most likely begin seizuring, if not on day 3 then 100% will happen on day 4. The stress and physical damage withdrawal does to the body causes more pain and more swelling, the toxins keep buREPORT COMMENTS

I am a chronic pain patient with serious and well documented pain causing medical issues. I am seeing a pain management doctor who has admitted to me that she CANNOT treat me with the dosage of medication that she is fairly sure would help me because "that particular strength [30 milligram dosage] is 'flagged' and more likely to cause our office to undergo a DEA audit." When doctors have to worry more about DEA audits than about what would benefit their patients, something is terribly wrong. Also, I am reading articles about how there have been ENORMOUS increases in the amount of heroin use (and by extention, heroin overdoses) because heroin is now both cheaper and easier to obtain than narcotic pain pills. That being the case, I don't see how the government can justify the current regulations even from a "harm reduction" standpoint. The reality of the situation is that the stricter prescribing regulations for opioid medication has done NOTHING to slow down illegal narcotic use, it has only switched the drug of choice, and it has had profound negative impact on the quality of treatment and quality of life for chronic pain patients.REPORT COMMENTS
