Excerpts from politicians, left and right: 1/22/2015 (story on MSN.com) NOTE: although off HCPs, their comments unilaterally and unequivocally SHOULD pertain to ALL Americans with all types of ailments! Chronic Pain Patient's lives MATTER TOO!! _____________________________________ Obama, in the West to promote his State of the Union economic and education agenda, embraced the same 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion that the protesters were vilifying. He said that decision "reaffirms a fundamental American value: that government should not intrude in our most private and personal family matters." _____________________________ "I urge my colleagues to stand with the hundreds of thousands of people out on the Mall right now by voting for this bill," said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. "Stand up and commit to creating an America that values every life." ______________________________________ The debate took a turn for the personal, when Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., referred to "hypocrites on the other side of the aisle who have counseled their own girl friends to have abortions. It's legal." Rep. Scott DesJarlais, R-Tenn., a doctor who opposes abortion rights, once urged a patient he was dating to seek an abortion. _____________________________________ No. 4 House GOP leader Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state, told the crowd that having her 7-year-old son, who has Down syndrome, has intensified her commitment to the anti-abortion fight. "Every child and every life is a gift," she said. _____________________________________ It's both saddening and sickening how hypocritical they ARE. They serve only themselves and those with money. -

People with legitimate pain are being treated as though they are running cartels. Many of us have been on pain killers for a while and now doctors tell us "no more pain meds''. I know a woman who had cancer and her doctor said no more pain meds and so she killed herself because of the pain. The DEA needs to stop the war on pain patients. Please help us. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

I am disabled and suffer with chronic pain. I can not tolerate hydocodone and do not want to go on the stronger opiates for as long as I can avoid it. I have tried physical therapy which caused my pain to increase and injections into my back only help for a couple weeks. Oral steroids help but long term use is counterproductive. I have been controlling my pain with gabapentin, tramadol, flexeril and limiting my activities. I moved to a county in TN recently that will not even give me refills on TRAMADAL! This is even though legally I should be able to get up to five according to the pharmacist. I can not afford to pay outrageous office visit fees ( I'm charged full price each time) every month for her to just give me a written RX. Not only is it costly but it causes me increased pain from the driving, sitting for the mandatory hour it's seems to take them to get to me, the walking I have to do. I have PAIN that increases when my activity level increases but forced to this because doctors here do not want to take any chances with the DEA and besides the doctor is making a killing with office visit fees. To get some relief I have turned to a more natural treatment that should be legalized at both state and federal. It helps keep the pain tolerable. It's less expensive and I can get it delivered.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband is going through all this right now. His Dr. left the practice and now none of the other doctors will write his monthly prescriptions that he has been taking for years. Said he must wait until they can see him...in three months! All the addicts in this country are ruining any quality of life the chronic pain sufferer could have.REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA needs to LAY OFF. The War on Drugs is an abject and utter failure - and that is NOT because of chronic pain patients like the DEA and the mainstream media want you to believe. There is NOT an "epidemic" of prescription drug overdoses - in fact, of all the people that died in this country last year, something like 0.8% of those were due to overdoses, and the large portion of those overdoses were due to unregulated drugs like heroin, NOT prescription pain medicine. Some epidemic, huh? The overdoses that do occur are NOT the fault of chronic pain patients - we don't sell our medication because we need it to relieve our suffering, and most of us don't even become addicts. Yes, we become dependent on medication, but that is completely different than becoming an addict - look up the definitions of "tolerance," "dependence," and addiction and learn something, my dear DEA agents! Anyone who follows this issue knows that the drug issues in this country are largely supported by the government - we all know that the CIA and other parts of the government import heroin, cocaine, and yes, prescription medications into this country and sell it on the streets to fund their deep black ops - they've been doing it for decades and have even been CAUGHT doing it, and yet it continues. Meanwhile, chronic pain patients are being blamed and punished for the fact that these drugs are on the street - because you need someone to blame other than yourselves. Meanwhile, good people are losing their battle with pain and are choosing suicide more and more often because of Draconian DEA policies regarding pain care.REPORT COMMENTS

This HAS to stop! I left a pain dr. who was treating me badly-when I left-he changed my file to say I was fired. Since I was a Pain Patient-it made it near impossible to find a new pain dr. I wrote a bad review and then this pain dr./anesth. sued me for 100K. I was & am disabled. I couldn't fight a Dr. who made 500K a year. Pain patients have NO WHERE to turn and have no rights. We are already suffering and are in so much pain we want to die-things like this push us over the edge! Please some one help! I was in my mid 30's when this happened to me. Without my husband I would have committed suicide. I was raised poor, by an abusive parent, then put in foster homes. I became emancipated at 16. I NEVER experienced more fear & desperation than the time when this dr. ravaged my life.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a law-abiding, disabled nurse. I have a terrible bladder disease, along with several other related medical conditions. I have always been a good, passionate advocate for my patients who were suffering. Now, I fear I am going to be let-down and abandoned by my own professional peers, because of YOU. I have had a failed sacral nerve stimulator and a failed spinal cord stimulator trial. I've had my bladder nerves partially surgically severed TWICE, and have tried various oral treatments to try to manage intractable pain. I have suffered for over a decade. Now, I have an intrathecal morphine pain pump, and I take oral pain medication for breakthrough pain as needed. I am also receiving painful Botox injections, 20-25 injections at a time, in my bladder in an effort to control the pain. I am very afraid. I, too, have been treated like a criminal or an addict over the years, humiliated, judged, and turned away for pain management or have had difficulty filling a legal, conservative prescription for pain medicine. I have a family that loves me, BUT, if I am abandoned to this pain, if you continue to butt in where you have no moral or ethical authority, if you continue to frighten and intimidate my doctors and pharmacists, YOU are going to drive me to go against everything I stand for and against my own religious convictions, and I am going to end up choosing suicide, not because I want to rationally do that, but because when I am suffering in wretched, hellish pain, I won't be able to think clearly or to stand it. And this will be on YOU. IT WILL BE ON YOU. Do not put those of us that are suffering in this desperate, heartbreaking situation. You need to please BACK OFF. You're causing a great deal of harm, additional pain and suffering, and deeply traumatic humiliation. Shame on you! But you can change your actions, re-empower our health care professionals, validate pain patients' concerns, and turn the tide of public opinion. Please, do something positive and help change the laws to strengthen protections for pain patients, doctors, and pharmacies. If it would help to have pain patients or health care professionals testify before any committee or even at the higher levels of government, then by all means, I am willing to do that. But please, do something to help us, and soon. And please help our veterans in pain. They deserve our help right now.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been treated for pain for over ten years. These new restrictions are causing problems. Twice in the last three months I had to go over a week without any pain medication. My doctor said she was unable to do anything because of the restrictions put on pain medication. When I went on vacation I wanted to have enough medication until I returned. The doctor couldn't do anything. I went a week without pain meds until I returned and was able to see my doctor. Last month my regular doctor was gone and a different doctor gave me a prescription. But he made a mistake and wrote the prescription for a lower dose than what I was supposed to get. I called and was told that I should take four and one half pills instead of the usual three per day. When I ran out I went in was was told they could not write a prescription until a full month went by. My doctor did write a prescription a few days early. I went to the drugstore and was told they couldn't fill it until a few days went by. Do you care about people with chronic pain? Talk about government getting between a patient and their doctor!!! This is ridiculous. Please reconsider and let doctors prescribe what the think the patient needs.REPORT COMMENTS

My mother has diabetes and ms. Its hard enough for her as it is as she suffers from chrinic pain and i was outraged that she drove all over town and not one pharmacy would fill her pain medication that she has been taking for years . She doesnt know what to do she is suffering and nobody cares. This is a stupid policy and i do fear real pain suffering patients will live in a tremendous amount of pain and even worst die.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a broken tooth and have waited a month to get in to have it removed. I have spent a month in agonizing pain and can't get the pain medicine I need. I can't imagine having cancer or a similar issue and having to deal with this CRAP. The drug addicts in my area simply shifted to heroin. I have a lifelong friend in the military who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was told he would be eradicating poppy fields in Afghanistan. Instead he and others provided armed guard service for a poppy field/ heroin laboratory. Cargo planes came from Europe with skids of cash and left with skids of heroin. Men in suits and glasses were everywhere. What a joke the "war on drugs" is. If this were a free country I could go to a pharmacy and pay for what I need- end of story. Get the government out of our business!REPORT COMMENTS

It is truly a disgrace how doctors, pharmacists, true chronic pain patients are treated; Have they looked into how many pain patients kill themselves because of the lack of fair medical treatment and much needed meds? I often feel like I would be much better off to take matters into my own hands because of the disgrace of the healthcare system! The DEA, government should go after the illegals and drug dealers instead of US Citizens with chronic pain! I'm 32 and can't work, function daliy because of the ****ed up World I live in!REPORT COMMENTS

Ketamine is the safest drug for long term chronic pain use. It also treats depression and is neuroprotective too. But it has almost no side effects when used at sub-dissociative doses so drug companies are not interested because it is cheap and you can work on it without getting sicker as a result. Yet no doctor in Oregon will prescribe daily doses and it is only available to the wealthy. It is safer than opioids, NSAIDS, and Cannabis. Why isn't it available and encouraged?REPORT COMMENTS
