I feel awful when I ask for something for pain. I am so humiliated there are times I pretend I am O.K. but when I have a lot of pain and I am allowed 2 pain pills a day thanks to our government,I often think if it gets worse I will just have to blow my brains out. I don't say it very often as to not worry my family but it hurts them when they see me suffer and that too is hard deal with. I wish they would allow doctors to practice medicine instead of making people who have pain be treated this way...the DEA are just making things worse and the drug dealers win.REPORT COMMENTS

Ive written many times! You all need to wake the hell up and realuze you are KILLING a good percent of the chronic pain population!! IS THAT YOUR GOAL!?!? TO MAKE US TURN TO THE STREET FOR RELIEF!?! OUR DAM DOCTORS ARE NOT HELPI G THE SUFFERING!! THERE IS NO WHERE TO TURN!! Not only do I suffer from debilitating conditions that cause me excruciating pain, so does my younger brother. He was in a MVA thru no fault of his own, left to die on the sude of the NJ Turnpike by a hit and run driver. He has plates from his neck down to his ass. I watched my brother today cry in pain to me. A grown man, who has lost his job, his family. his home..He cannot work due to the excruciating pain he is in. NOONE WILL ****ING HELP HIM. DAMMIT I AM MAD AS HELL!! He cant get adequate pain relief, is being treated like a piece of******because he needs pain meds to relieve his pain, as all of us who are BEING FORCED TO SUFFER IN PAIN. IT KILLS ME TO SEE HIM IN AS MUCH PAIN AS I AM IN. I try to be strong for the both of us, but we talk of ending our lives. WHY IS SUICIDE EVEN A CONSIDERATION!?!? IT SHOULD NEVER BE!!! I am 23 yrs old and I have had mind blowing sever back pain for two years, and until recently it was undiagnosed. Well you can just imagine the looks I got at doctor's offices and ERs. I'm sure it didn't help that I build up a very high tolerance for opiates. (I'm drug resistant to most medications not just opiates, but that certainly never mattered to anybody.) It didn't even do me any good to have a genetics test done proving that I would need a much higher dose than most people. I was finally diagnosed last spring. A disc pressing against my spinal column, and therefore the nerves in my spinal column. I had surgery for it late July and I was able to come off the pain medication soon after. Hallelujah! And then I hit a set back. I'm back on the narcotics once again having to jump through hoops and prove to a new doctor that I'm sincere. I would like to be able to try different forms and dosages of the medication to find a treatment that works best for me without people looking at me like I'm pill shopping. I just want to be able to take my classes (online) and finally graduate in a few months. I don't see how any of that should be the DEA's concern.REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA visited my doctor by surprise, of course my Doctor is legit and was doing nothing illegal. But afterwards he stopped doing pain management, and I mean that he came in his office one day and told his secretary to send all his pain management patients home, that he would only be practicing Family Medicine from now on. A waiting room of people had to leave, including myself, with no medication. I have a degenerative back condition, and the pain is at times unbearable. I have tried the shots, and alternatives to medication, but my insurance will no longer will pay for the procedures and I currently am on a list that will take over 20 days to see a physician. I have lived the last several weeks at home, in bed, and in pain. My life has went from being active to nothing. This isn't right. I realize there are people out there who seek out pain medications. But why punish those of us who need it? My only alternative to medications is surgery, and I have known of two people who have committed suicide afterwards because it made the condition worse. This sounds like no option. Let our doctors treat us. Let me go back to the life that I once enjoyed and was capable of living pain free.REPORT COMMENTS

I had a car accident, not my fault, in 2003. I had a broken hyoid, and soft tissue injuires, that brought out fibromyalgia and a worsening degenerative disc disease. Now I have 6 ruptured discs in back, and neck. It is so painful and I have been on meds, tried most every treatment there is. I have Tens units, but they are not effective as pain meds when the spasms really kick in bad. Please don't consider people who have chronic conditions with extreme pain as drug addicts. Please let the doctors prescribe meds to those who really need it. Maybe there is a way to get the addicts off of this, and treat the real patients who need the help. Please, please, please for the sake of this country's people who are chronic pain, please let the doctors prescribe medications that help. If it weren't for the meds I wouldn't have been able to at least walk, sit, and do household chores. Now my doctor is cutting down the pills and I have been reduced to the couch again. Please help us get our lives back again. We the people in chronic pain do hereby state that living in a pain free existence is our God-given right, and a right to have medication that helps us, and not be judged wrongly for the medical conditions that we have. I can't stand it, I am in intolerable pain and can't have surgery done, it is too risky. Please once again, have some compassion.REPORT COMMENTS

I was a slight victim of this practice, suffered from a kidney infection and was almost sent home due to finding pain killers I used to deal with the back pain in my system. I hate being on any pill or meds that I have to take in order to be able to work, sleep and be useful to my family and myself. That said, life sucks and getting old adds to it. I have chronic back pain. My doctor did tests, X-ray, scans, blood tests and all kinds of crap I don't even know how to pronounce let alone understand. That's why I trust my doctor. When my doctor put me on percoset for my pain I freaked out after reading about the tons of little warnings and side effects. I told my wife I would rather be dead than have to do this. She started crying (we are both seniors) and said "I don't want to loose you. You are my reason for living." I started welling up because we have always fought our battles together and I just got selfish. She's right. How could I be so selfish. So I promised her that I would do whatever it takes. I filled the prescription. That first month I tried cutting them in half. I still had problems and thought I would get an atta boy from my doctor for not taking all of it when I went back for my next appointment. Little did I know my wife told my doctor behind my back that I might lie to her (my doctor is female) about my pain. A man is supposed to buck up, right? Well my doctor did not give me the kudo rather she chwed my*****out. So since they are in cahoots I just said yes ma'am and proceeded to do as I am told. Now I go to get a simple freaking refill and it's all this crap and rules and only monthly prescriptions and then the pharmacy giving me crap. I am a Vietnam War veteran that served for our country. I am not some hop head dopper. Why can't I get a 3-6 month prescription? I have to pay for each doctor visit waste time sitting around and oh you have to schedule the doctor appointment six weeks in advance. The math don't work here folks.REPORT COMMENTS

I had a total of six hours sleep since Thursday. My bodu is physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted. I have debilitating conditions that leave me in excruciating chronic intractable pain!! For years I played by the rules! I did what the medical doctors told me to do! I had two spinal fusions that FAILED! I went thru years of physical therapy, massage, chiro, epidurals, steriod injections, all other meds besides opiods. NOTHING WORKED!! OPIOD THERAPY WAS MY LAST RESORT AND I WAS FINALLY GIVEN A QUALITY OF LIFE! UP UNTIL LAST MARCH WHEN MY DOSE WAS LOWERED AND IT DOESNT EVEN TOUCH THE DAM PAIN! Those of you running this dam cou try better wake the hell up! How do you sleep at night knowing you are inflicting great harm, pain and suffering on the legit patients who were finally given some quality of life by taking the correct dose of narcotics?!?! I was in a car accident several years ago where an 18-year-old girl texting and driving hit me while I was sitting at a stop sign. I ended up breaking two vertebrae in my back and one of my disc in my back ruptured. I now have rods, screws and a cage where my disc use to be in my back. I now walk with a cane. I still have pinching nerves down my left side and severe weakness down my left side. I also have severe muscle spasms up and down my entire back. My Neurosurgeon now wants to put a TENS unit box type thing in my back also to help with some of this stuff. I am in constant severe pain also! I have fallen several times. I now have life alert system. I also have to have aide service that comes in to help me during the week because I can't stand long enough to cook or clean or do laundry! I have to have a ramp put on my house in case I want to go for a ride with my kids, them on their bikes, and me in a scooter now. I go to a pain clinic and see the same doctor every month for which I receive small dosages of narcotic medications. Here in New York they are even regulated by the pharmacy. The pharmacy won't let you get them a day early. I'm very good about my medications. I have had the same family doctor for years who knows all about my pain meds. I go to the same pharmacy every time. If I have to go to the hospital, my medications and dosages are all written down and provided to them (and I have been treated terrible plenty of times by them as well). I am always very honest about my medication to everyone. Well recently I was in another small accident where I was run off the road by another vehicle who then left the scene. When the police were called, instead of investigating the accident, they saw my cane, asked me about my disability and if I take medications for it, and of course I said yes, but I hadn't taken any in about 5 1/2 hours, but they didn't care, they arrested me for driving under the influence of drugs! I was no where near under the influence. I had already driven the hour and a half drive and was only a block and a half from my pain clinic appt. and the whole trip was fine. I would never put my children at risk like that! I was simply discriminated against just because I take that medicine! Even though the bottle itself does not say that I cannot drive while taking that medicine. My child even saw the car who ran us off the road and she will be 18 in a couple months! They didn't care! It was all about the medicine for them! I am a true pain sufferer and my back is only getting worse. I have been on the same medicine for almost 5 years and never had a problem. Now child protective is involved and is saying that if I take my medicine I can't drive with my children and may not even have my children at all or I can not take my pain medicine and suffer severely for the rest of my life and keep my children! The judge even have child protective the right to drug test me! My doctor at the pain clinic works closely with my neurosurgeonREPORT COMMENTS
