Those of us who have been diagnosed with debilitating pain should not be lumped in with drug abusers. And we should not suffer because of addicts. If we are to tell government to "get out of our uteruses" we should also tell them to get out of the rest of our bodies, especially when it comes to pain management.

my name is AmandaI've had pain for most of my life severe excruciating headaches to the point that I thought I was dying or I wanted to die just to make it stop it wasn't until I was in my thirties before I could get a doctor to listen to me and look for the cause of the pain instead of treating me like a drug addict. it's been almost 5 years now that the doctor found the problem within 30 days of him finding out what was wrong I had brain surgery and he medicated me for pain and in the last 5 years I have not had to go to the emergency room even once where is before I spent probably 3 to 4 days a week in the emergency room vomiting in excruciating pain. within the last 5 years I've had three Pharmacy just overnight decide to stop filling for me. when I asked why I was told that the DEA would not let them fill for me because my doctor was about 40 minutes away now mind you I come from a small town where there's only two pain clinics neither of which treated headaches. 3 years ago I thought I finally found a Pharmacy that I could stay with forever but 6 months ago they to said they couldn't fill for me anymore because their corporate office change policies now every month I have to call all the pharmacies in that chain this chain to beg one of the pharmacist to fill my prescriptions.I've got him to fill a few times but they've all said will fill this time but you need to find a new Pharmacy but I've been to every other Pharmacy and have been told no by them all.their reason is they don't have enough meds to fill they can't take on new patients so my meds are due tomorrow and I have no idea if I'll be able to find someone to fill it probably not even though I've offered all the Pharmacy my medical records so they could see for themselves i'm a legitimate patient thats never failed a drug test or a pill count but to the Pharmacy that does not matter so now I'm an end up back in the emergency room being treated like a drug seeking drug addict while being very ill for withdrawal and severe pain when I've been stable for the last five years and now because of whoever I have to go back to what it was like before when I had no life! this is not right this is discrimination how do we get people to listen I even called my local news station and ask them to run a story they never called back but I guarantee you let someone in the government run into the same problem they get hurt and pain medicine and can't get it and then be treated like a criminal on top of it that's the only time something is going to be done about it. instead of us pain patients just complaining about it online we need to find a way to band together and take this to Capitol Hill if there's enough of us trying to do something about it they can't ignore us any more. If trying to go to our government doesn't work then we need to try a class action lawsuit for discrimination pain and suffering humiliation. sorry for my rant but I just can't take it anymore it's hard enough to get up every d

It makes me furious reading all these heartbreaking stories of all races and ages, being FORCED BY THE DEA AND OUR GOVERNMENT TO SUFFER IN EXCRUCIATING PAIN WHEN THERE IS NO REASON TO HAVE THE LEGIT PATIENTS STRIPPED OF THEIR LIFE SAVING MEDS OTHER THAN TO FIT THE GOVERNMENTS AGENDA! Who the hell are any of you to decide what chronic pain patients can and cant have!?!? BEING FORCED INTO STERIOD INJECTIONS AND VERY EXPENSIVE SURGERIES WHEN THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT! WHO ARE YOU TO DECIDE HOW WE CHOOSE TO TREAT OUR PAIN!?!? I swore to myself after my second FAILED spinal fusion id never be cut open again. It left me with severe nerve damage down my legs and feet. The nerves all over my back give me the burning sensations that pulse and throb all day every day. I also have three hern. discs, any idea!?!? My discs are protruding out of the spinal cord causing my spine to throb in excruciating pain. Add arthritis to the hips and spine, migraines and because of the HELL YOU ARE FORCING LEGIT PATIENTS TO LIVE IN I NOW SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY!!! I HAD A QUALITY OF LIFE UNTIL MY DR LOWERED MY MEDS TO INEFFECTIVE DOSES! ITS TIME THE PAIN COMMU ITY COME TOGETHER AND TAKE OUR VOICES TO THE FOOT OF THE WHITE HOUSE. Well, here we go again. My boyfriend suffers from chronic pain due to degenerate back diagnoses. It's raining out today & we have an appointment. I'll have to help get him dressed, socks & shoes & help him to the car the best I can walking slowly. He's 6'2" & I'm 5'1". He was on steroid injections & that caused diabetes. He was blown up to almost 400 lbs & bed ridden. He motivated himself to get out of bed, walk & lose the weight. The pain clinic did put him on pain medication but that stopped due to "refusal" of steroids. He now has the underlying condition of neuropathy. "We use needles here now & therapy methods." We were offered a "referral" to the Cleveland Clinic. It breaks my heart to watch your soul-mate suffer from depression as his quality of life has severely changed. All of you are in my prayers & also prayers for the DEA to change their ways. These refusal of medication issues for chronic pain need to be addressed & doctors need to quit labeling their patients. You're not going to lose your license taking care of another human being. You chose to be a doctor ~ act like one.

You are committing to murder . I'm depressed because of the pain . The doctors want to treat the depression but not the primary complaint of pain . If I take depression medication I'm a drug addict . I went to a pain clinic the told me to do aqua therapy. My head hurts and the rest of my body hurts I only take Tylenol or have to go to an e.r.. for medicine that works . Who are you to take my quality of life and what gives you the right ?

I am so glad I stumbled upon this site. I was trying to build a website petition myself but I'm not experienced at it and is taking a lot of trial and error that equals much time. I am 60 years old, college educated with an electronics degree and have been a chronic pain sufferer since 1985 when I was diagnosed with Cervical Spondylosis. Then followed 10 years later with Lumbar Spondylitis.. Now I am a candidate for a knee replacement and my rheumatologist wants me to wait a little longer because of the life span of the surgery thus allowing me to get a little older not to have to repeat it. So I have to walk very carefully with a cane at this point. The arthritis on top of that has an exponential effect for pain. I've had several surgeries including 1 for my knee already. I am told by doctors that surgery on my neck and back would not be beneficial and possibly worse so I have to resort to pain meds. I was prescribed Hydrocodone and Soma for pain and worked just fine. Now since the DEA has stepped in, my medication was switched to Morphine which might have worked ok if I was still prescribed Soma. Now I'm on a more potent opiate which I don't really need stronger and cut out the muscle relaxer that I do need. The Hydrocodone was working fine with the Soma. I've tried all kinds of replacement muscle relaxers but they all are ineffective including valium which is every bit as addictive as Soma. I don't know if it is illegal to prescribe it yet but I do know there is pressure from the DEA probably because it became a popular street drug. It is no more addictive than any other narcotic I've taken. Who made government the expert responsible for my personal health? Do they know what my condition is? Do they even know what Cervical Spondylosis is? Who is more qualified to make that decision? Them or my doctor? How come the FDA can approve it 30 years or more ago and all of a sudden it's a bad drug. More addictive? Think about it.That makes about as much sense as saying vitamin C is better for you than vitamin B. A narcotics are addictive no matter which one it is. A dope dealer and an addict are going to get their hands on dope as long as their is a demand for dope! When are people going to learn this. I think it would be better for an addict to go to a doctor anyway for his/her fix rather than a dope dealer because it is a controlled environment, they know what they are getting and it would take a big bite out of the criminal element. I think if they take a good look at the stats, there are more people dying from bad drugs or the unknown potency of it and dope deals gone bad than people dying of overdoses prescribed by doctors. So the government is going to be the big hero and save a life. If an addict is going to OD, wouldn't it be just as easy to do by getting their dope off of the streets? If it is going to happen, it will, no matter where it is coming from. So go ahead and make people suffer so it can look like " we're doing something about it

I have difficulty expressing my thoughts and feelings about the change in treatment of my chronic pain and insomnia. My experience has been similar to that articulated by many others who have signed this petition; many of the comments on this petition say what I want to say far better than I can, yet here are my thoughts: A decade ago, the medical profession got it right ? they recognized that people with chronic pain were suffering; treatment provided was appropriate, resulting in reduced suffering and a better quality of life for thousands of people. Then some medical professionals got carried away. Some saw it as a way to make a lot of money. Others ordered narcotics for everything and everyone. Now the pendulum has swung the other way and medical professionals have been told they are not to order opioids nor can they combine certain classes of medications even when it is the best treatment for the problem. Thus far I still receive the oxycontin to control my pain but no longer can have the anti-anxiety meds to combat the side effects of the oxycontin nor medicine that allows me to get and stay asleep. I had taken these medicines for eight years with no increase in dosage, pretty good control of my pain and insomnia and an acceptable quality of life. As a Veteran receiving care through the VA, I was frequently tested to ensure that I wasn?t misusing the drugs or also using alcohol or other drugs. I followed the prescribed medication regimen exactly and my tests were always in line with my prescribed medication. I don?t have a problem with being tested -- the people who have a problem with being tested are those who are not using the medications for the condition and at the dosage/frequency prescribed. The tests must have gotten too expensive or too time consuming as in the last several years I have been tested done less frequently. I had insomnia before I had chronic pain. My mother has insomnia as does my sister ? it runs in our family. The chronic pain made my insomnia much worse so the physicians treated it with sleeping pills. It took a while to find something that worked. The new VA guidelines say I can?t have that medicine any more so they won?t prescribe it; consequently I never get more than a few hours of interrupted sleep, my body and mind are not relaxed and restored to start a new day. There are hundreds of articles addressing how individuals who experience chronic pain also experience significant problems getting and/or staying asleep, and how a lack of restorative sleep significantly and negatively effects the ability to function in daily life. Perhaps the worst effect of this policy change within and outside of the VA: those of us with insomnia and chronic pain who were successfully treated know that life CAN be tolerable; the pain CAN be managed with a treatment regimen which includes medication, restorative sleep IS possible with a combination of medication and sleep hygiene techniques . . . but those at the top of the V

My wife a legitimate chronic pain patient for 14 years, saw shrinks, took tests, had every known procedure to fix her problems was told, no, shes not addictive personality, but, when laws changed to meq of 80mg or less, she was titrated down, then last appt, had panic attack snet to er, next day, fired and now on her files (blacklisted) and said to have drug seeking behavior and SHE broke her contract? So, after that she was left to suffer major withdrawals that sent her to er and completely bedridden! She fought to come back and is now using natural supplements and whatever creams and lotions to ease her pain. BUT she still has pain, and after dealing with it for so long, is getting worse. She cant get a pin dr to even accept her now because of what is put in her records! She is my life, have you ever had to sit and watch a loved one suffer and not be able to help? Its the worst pain. What is she supposed to do now, just suffer, because of the powers that be decide it? Shame on you all!

Been saying it for awhile now, We need to stand as one and get a lawfirm to do class action suit agsinst the cdc, dea and the government too. they are INTENTIONALLY CAUSING PAIN, SUFFERING AND HARM TO THE CHRONICALLY ILL LEGIT PATIENTS. OUR RIGHTS ARE VIOLATED EVERY DAY! I woukd also think that they are violating HIPPA AND THE ADA LAWS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE TO PROTECT US. The government thinks we will all just back down, let them control our lives when they ARE NOT DOCTORS, KNOW NOTHING ABOUT US OR OUR CONDITIONS, KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE EXCRUCIATING PAIN WE ARE FORCED TO LIVE IN!! ITS LIVING HELL! MY QUALITY OF LIFE HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM ME AND I AM FURIOUS! They are nothing but a bunch of lying*****terrorists running this country and if it's a fight they want, than that's what we will give them! I think its time we protested at the foot of the White House. there are over 100million people who suffer with chronic pain, Imagine millions taking a stand together as one!!! Ive been looking up lawyers as well for a class action lawsuit. Theres a lawyer/firm out there who will take them on. Its time we FIGHT back. I have had 6 surgeries so far. They LIE when they say people are still abusing. How is that? They cross reference all, the doctors are watched. NOPE. I for one want to start a class action against the DEA for discrimination of the disabled. Any Civil rights lawyer takers? This will be a HUGE case. A winner because there targeting ONLY legitimate pain suffers now. The fakers are all gone.

It is very frustrating to know that the medicine exists to ease my pain, and allow me to live the kind of life most other people without chronic pain can enjoy, but my doctor is unwilling or afraid to prescribe due to government pressure vis a vie the DEA. It is not FAIR to have to live in a day and age when medicine is available to allow me to live a productive and happy life, but it is always a arms length reach away. It almost torture knowing this and unable to get the proper help.
