As a chronic pain suffer I know how it feels to live life everyday in pain... I suffer from chronic pancreatitis and have had this disease for 9yrs... I've heard of other people's horror stories about how they've been treated in the ER by doctors or how they've been treated by their doctors but had never had my own experience until one day I had to go to the ER bc I was having a flare up and wasn't able to keep my meds down... Most if the time I take care of my flare ups at home until I get to the point of not being able to keep my pain medication down or the pain is so bad I can't take it anymore... While I was in the ER the PA that was taking care of me was very rude towards me and just acted like I was waiting his time... When I did finally ask for something for pain he responded to me and said that was the only reason I was there was to get pain medication... Now trust me going to the ER is the last thing I want to do... I have pain medication at home so if I wanted to get high I could of stayed home and done that, and that's exactly what I told him... The laws today are making so hard for our doctors to be able to take care of us... And it's not just the laws but it's the actual drug seekers too, but people like me are the one who are being punished everyday and it's not fair... I want each and everyone of you reading this to think back to a time to when you where really sick... Remember how bad you felt? Now imagine feeling like that everyday and not being able to take anything to make it better... I know if it came down to it I would do what I had to in order to survive and live my life to where I could be as pain free as I could be everyday... That's what you politicians just don't understand bc it's not happening to you... So please stand up for us and fight for us please!

I've watched my brother suffer excruciating pain from a rare bone disease most of his adult life. Countless times he has fought off the desire to commit suicide to end his suffering once and for all. Doctors and other medical staff continually treat him like a back alley junkie - until they see his MRI. Then they can't believe he hasn't passed out from the pain. But even then, they offer him some miniscule dose of a mild prescription pain med, because they're afraid of getting in trouble with the DEA. The government is directly responsible for his years of misery. Politicians and government agencies have no business whatsoever interfering with a doctor trying to appropriately treat a patient. It's time to stop this harassment and the infliction of suffering now.

I am a Chronic Pain Patient and 2 years ago after 14 years of being on a medication treatment that gave me my life back at 24 years old my Pain Mgt Dr told me that I was no longer going to be prescribed the medication I had been on for 5 years and that I would have to be tapered down to 1/15 of the dosage that was therapeutically working for my pain. In 2001 when I was 23 I was skateboarding and crashed on a ramp and had a compression fracture of my T7 vertebrae. That injury healed in about 6 months but I started having sciatic pain in my right hip that none of the Primary care Doctors would take serious. They all told me I was too young to have back problems and was just seeking pain meds. I told every Doctor, my primary, different Dr's from same day appointments that I did not want any pain meds and I just wanted then to figure out what the problem was so I could walk without having searing nerve pain from the top of my hip to the tip of my toes every time I took a step. I would have this pain for months and sometimes I would turn around to back my truck out of a parking space and I could feel the disk that was slipped out of place pop back in and the pain would go away for a while. After 15 different Dr appointments and just X-rays taken I was walking down the stairs of my Apt and the Sciatic pain came on on the second to the top step and I fell down a whole flight of stairs. Luckily I had my laptop backpack on and it protected my spin and I went to the ER and the ER Doctor actually listened to me and scheduled me a referral for Physical Medicine and an MRI. My physical medicine Dr read my MRI Results and basically said I had the spine of a 70 year old. The MRI showed Spinal Stenosis, three degenerated and one bulging disk and one of the disks was slipping out and pinching my sciatic nerve. He gave me Vicodin and referred me to pain management and from there I was put through PT, Pain classes and every other day appointments with my new pain management Dr. After I graduated the pain class I told my Pain Mgt Dr that I was now waking up after a couple hours of sleep and it felt like my whole spine was on fire and it hurt to breathe. he kept me on as his patient for over a year and a half and after many Epidurals that did nothing for the pain he had me get three MRI's with different contrasts because I had mentioned my mother had Reiter syndrome a form of RA. He checked me for the gene that is linked and sure enough I had it the HLA-B27 gene and with the MRI's he consulted two infectious disease Dr's and diagnosed me with ankylosing spondylitis. He said that my spine would fuse together and my hips were starting to dislocate in my sleep and he said I needed a hip replacement. I never was given a surgical consult and was handed to my primary care doctor for continued Opiate treatment to have some quality of life. I remember one of the first appointments after the diagnosis before I went to my PCP Dr with my pain management Dr and

My doctor was arrested today for prescribing pain meds to pt without pain. This is absolutly crazy, he only takes patients who have a referral, and only gives low doses. This needs to stop. Just this year there have been raids at around 25 clinics in this area. Guess what, there are none left. What are people supposed to do for pain? This is exactly what you want, these people will now become abusers of street drugs, then u can arrest them and take their money and ruin their lives even more then u already have by taking their doctors. This is "the people's" country, not yours, and we will take it back one way or another.

DEA is bullying doctors not to prescribe needed pain medication with threat of license suspension. Seniors who most need these pain medications are to be subjected to urine testing to determine if these drugs are in their system, and not sold to others. Patient records must be made available if necessary to DEA agents. Another move by the Obama administration to come between you and your doctor. What about HIPPA rules? How about subpoenas to access patient records? As a senior, I find this new requirement humiliating, damaging to doctor-patient relationships, and overly expensive when performed on millions of people. Then again, when was this administration ever concerned about costs. They will just raise your healthcare premiums to cover it.

As a long term pain patient with a painful and dibilating disease I have experienced the doubt, judgement and worse when I should have received compassionate care instead and I know I'm not the only one. There is no need to be treated like a criminal at pharmacies when I have a valid RX in hand either. I would like for my doctor to be able to treat me in the way we agree not based on what the DEA limits us to.

It's not fair to label and make chronic pain patients suffer so bad when they are truly in pain ! Everyone suffers differently and someone who follows all the rules and guidelines needs to not be punished ! I have suffered with chronic pain since I was hit by a drunk driver I didn't ask for this life of pain but I deserve quality of life and to be able to function for my daughter and family ! If they would stop giving to people that abuse it and to the ones who are suffering we wouldn't have this problem ! It's not fair ! If you never dr. shop shop should not be punished for others wrong doing!

I am sorry that prescription pain meds have been abused by some people. These are the type of people who I believe will find something else to abuse. All one has to do is look at the rash of "designer" drugs that have popped op over the last few years. These things prove that there is a percentage of people who are looking for and will try anything to get high. It is documented that people who live in chronic pain do not get high from there meds but do get pain relief and some quality of life back. How is it fair for the government to step in and take away the only thing that makes it possible for so many of us to return to work, play with our kids, clean our house....All of the things that people without pain take for granted every single day. If you think the overdoses of heroin are high, if you keep limiting and scaring doctors, the suicide numbers will soar due to people not wanting to live with the pain and the limits it puts on a person. People in that much pain who become totally unproductive won't live for long in that condition. And those deaths of fathers, sons, daughters, mothers, friends, are doing to be a direct result of your actions.

I am a sufferer of acute reoccurring pancreatitis and sphincter of Oddi disfunction. My disease will require at times IV fluids along with pain and nausea meds. This quite unfair. Just because someone doesn't have cancer doesn't mean they are in pain. We have been told that we experience pain worse than cancer. We have the right to be treated fairly and be given the proper care we need.

I have never been a drug user up until 2001 when I was a pedestrian run over by a drunk driver Had multiple broken bones and have practically every disc in my back from neck down to my buttocks. Reflex sympathetic dystrophy and many other problems PTSD AND NEVER HAD PROBLEMS BEING treated for chronic pain up until now. Because Doctor is afraid of losing his license I think it's wrong that DEA lets people suffer for there stupidity. If they had to suffer everyday I think they would think different. My mother 84 years old also was treated like a dog after being treated by same Doctor 15 years because afraid of loosing his license. Doctors don't need to practice at all if they can't treat the whole patient. Shut done all doctors office , hospitals , let the Dea take all responsibility for they're actions. SHAME ON YOU DEA FOR WHAT YOUR DOING AND MAKING PEOPLE SUFFER EVERYDAY OF THEYRE LIFE. YOU NEED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS WHAT GOOD IS A DOCTOR IF THEY CANT TREAT PAIN. NO NEED TO HAVE THEM. MAY AS WELL SHUT DOWN ALL COLLEDGES

This post is intended for current posters and those coming here to read what has been posted. NOT for my local representatives because all I get from them is a cookie-cutter response which is way off topic anyway. Maybe contacting all the current Presidential candidates at their respective websites about our concerns will bring them to light. The current administration has one foot out the door anyway. The creator of this petition does not, has not provided an inkling of any progress, for or against. Many people have paid the "expedited" $9 fee for not.

I am 46 years old and I have been inn some type of pain medicine for almost 30 years. I have had 18 surgeries and plenty of procedures during that time. I always took my pain meds as needed. ..not as prescribed. They don't know when I'm in pain or not so, to just say take them 3 times a day isn't the answer. I'll admit i screwed up. ..I was out of town and took someone else's pain meds. Long story short , I had a stroke in August due to SMOKING according to my doctors. So i screw up once in 30 years and learned my lesson quickly. Now the pain clinic is only willing to give me suboxone which is way worse than vicodin. After my first 3 doses of 2 mg (1 1/2 days), I woke up sick. I tried to sleep it off while my daughter was at school and my husband went to work. By the time they got home I could no longer talk and could barely walk. My husband took me to the ER and they couldn't determine what was wrong with me after a battery of 3 days worth of testing. They e even did a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) and couldn't establish aa reason for my condition. I didn't know who I was, who my parents, husband and kids were, how to use a spoon our what a bathroom was. I think I'm allergic to suboxone. So I went to my pain clinic and told them what happened. They didn't believe me and told me that if i wasn't willing to take it then they could do nothing for me and that this would be our last visit. I left in tears. ..to go from a weak vicodin t o potent suboxone seems extreme to me. Half tempted to take the rest of it and see what happens but I don't want to hurt my family, however, it just went to show me how little some doctor's care. Take our pain meds and give us suboxone....is that the only answer you guys can come up with? Now my bout with depression and anxiety are at an all new high to create chest pain from stress in addition to all my pain. Now what do I do? Commit suicide because I get no pain relief? Doesn't anyone care? If not, why don't they legalize assisted suicide so we can die on our own terms instead of blowing a hole in our heads. I have 8 doctors for different conditions. ..they all know about the others and all 20some scripts are at the same pharmacy. The strongest thing i have for pain now is my lyrica...that's just not cutting it. i didn't ask to live a life full of pain, but now I'm asking that I die if this is going to be my life from now on.

I am not entirely on the physicians side in this fight. Sure the government passed the bill that made pain meds hard for legit pain sufferers but I go to a Dr that began treating me like a criminal. I know that the bill got it*****backwards and should find another way to get the real drug abusers but the medical profession need to treat patients as patients not criminals. I just quit going to the Dr I went to for 10 years who brought me to tears today. Now I must get re-establish myself with another physician. Sad..

Only the bad guys should dislike you for doing your jobs and doing it well, the fact that the good guys do to proves your just being lazy and incompetent unable to work hard to separate us from one another. I appreciate what you do and sacrifice when you get it right! Please get it right- and don't be inhumane.

This is a serious issue, Doctors are unable to practice like this. Many Doctors don't even acknowledge Pain anymore, because they are afraid of the DEA. In many cases the original cause of the pain, will become chronic because the initial symptoms were ignored. This senseless approach has caused so much suffering, suicides, ruined lives, and added medical expenses.

I'm not getting the surgery or meds that I need for chronic back pain. My blood pressure is going through the roof. I was afraid to go to sleep last night for fear that I wouldn't wake up because I hadn't on stay on top of my blood pressure. I have seen so many doctors. My shoulders and neck hurt. I didn't straighten my arm fast enough and the nurse darned near pulled my arm out of the socked. I screamed. I'm not getting the muscle relaxers I need. I went almost a a month without a pay check because the office manager wouldn't send the updates to my STD administrator and she told the doctors assistant not to send them in. I'm in constant pain and I'm going to lose my job if they don't do my spine surgery soon. Now I am having seizures and the wounds won't heal from falling.

PRESIDENT, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO SUFFER IN PAIN JUST WANT OUR HUMAN RIGHTS ENFORCED AND WE DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO BEG OUR DOCTORS TO PRESCRIBE PAIN MEDS THAT WE LEGITIMATELY NEED AND WE ARE TIRED OF BEING TREATED LIKE WE ARE CRIMINALS. THE MEDIA IS ONLY PRESENTING ONE SIDE TO THIS " WAR ON DRUGS" WHICH IS REALLY A "WAR ON PAIN PATIENTS". I BELIEVE SOON THE TRUTH WILL BE KNOWN. THERE ARE 115 MILLION PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM PAIN. LESS AND LESS ARE BEING TREATED. I BELIEVE CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY ARE BEING COMMITTED IN OUR OWN COUNTRY. AND THAT IS A TRAVESTY!!, BARBARA
