Access to not just cancer care, but state-of-the-art cancer care, in the community setting is one of the major foundational tenants of what distinguishes the quality of medical care in this country. Just like in the government, there must be a "check and balance" between both institutional/hospital/academic medical centers and freestanding/private/physician owned medical practices which often, like private enterprises in any sector, are able to be more nimble, efficient and faster to implement new life-saving technologies. Should CMS not refrain from finalizing these reductions, a key brick in the foundation of access to curative cancer care will vanish or be fully extinguished for many, many patients, elderly and young. Our practice has treated thousands of patients with technlogies that major hospitals in the region were still contemplating. Without sufficient reimbursment, such implementation would take years, not to mention years off of many, many patients lives - and very soon stifle innovation from the cancer-research industry as their discoveries and technologies can no longer be afforded.Jul 30th, 2009Someone from Islip, NY signed.

These cuts would be devastating to the care of our patients and advancements in technology.REPORT COMMENTS
