nonbelievers are being forced to carry money with a religious claim that is not correct. Not all citizens trust in any of the gods of any religion. our currency has upon it a very obvious lie. this and the "under god" in the pledge do not represent our country as a diverse nation it wrongfully claims we are all people of faith and of just the Abrahamic faith. We are NOT. nonbelievers are not being represented properly. we deserve equal rights in the US. -

As an American and a Hindu and Silh grounded in my faith and citizenship, I choose E pluribus unum as my motto because we come from many faiths, cultures, and ethnicities that coexist in the sight of freedom, justice, and equality. Trusting God as a religious person is obvious, but making sure we honor God by honoring all matters so much more. Change the motto.REPORT COMMENTS

E Pluribus Unum is, at its hearts, an inclusive statement. In God We Trust not only grew out of an ill-conceived notion while the nation was in the grips of fear, but it is also decisively divisive. It does NOT capture the opinions held by many - that same demographic of "many" steadily growing over the years. Moreover, many advocates who would "take this country back" rely heavily on IGWT; a rather damning detail considering their insistence that it's only the National Motto. There are plenty of "us" who do not want to surrender "our" country to these zealots. The more we entangle notions of religion with government, the more our society suffers. As much as I find nationalism and its trappings, to include a motto, distasteful - if we are to have one, it shouldn't have anything to do with IGWT. Keep this filth out of our public sector and back in the hearts and minds of those who would like to believe in it. Nothing is suggesting that they don't have that right, which is more than I can say of those who would foist their beliefs on the rest of us.REPORT COMMENTS

Americans that identify as non-religious or Atheist make up 23% of our population. That's more than Hispanics at 17% of our population. It's also more than African Americans at 13% of our population. To show favoritism to one demographic (religious) is divisive and unconstitutional as the government at city, state and federal levels violates the 1st Amendment by promotion of religion and a deity. Please, inform all levels of government to remove the "in God we trust" decals from their government vehicles and inform these levels of government to not pursue this divisive measure of favoritism and neglect moving forward. The Federal Reserve, which elects the chairman through Congress, needs to remove this slogan from our currency. All levels of government should also remove this slogan from all forms of communication and paperwork such as I've received on vehicle registration envelopes here in Texas. Finally, return our national motto to E PLURIBUS UNIM as our founders established, to truly represent the United States as the diverse population it is.REPORT COMMENTS
