Religious freedom is a fundamental American tradition. We endanger it by continuing a half-cocked decision from 1956. E Pluribus Unum is true to our history and reflects our great success as a single nation composed of many peoples. Please consider also that printing a religious motto on money is an affront to the teachings of Jesus.

There should be NO connection with religion and our government! I doubt the motto was really changed out of fear of sounding communist! I think another whole agenda was at work! Bring back our original motto !!!!!

I think there are a lot of leftists who apply a negative connotation, but as Franklin himself explained, "in God we trust" was less about about religion than it was about government corruption. Since those religious must one day answer to a supposed higher power, they cannot permit themselves to yield to corrupt authority in the here and now. Whether one believes or not is irrelevant, Americans have traditionally supported this supposition, this desire to root-out as just cause, that corruption which historically favored elitists of aristocracy.

E Pluribus Unum was the understood motto and should remain! In God We Trust makes a religious statement. Not all believe what God means. It is not in the spirit of our First Amendment.

Our bonds to each other as citizens of America should be displayed in our motto over anything religious in connotation whatsoever.

Our diversity and its celebration must replace a motto that proclams any religious belief!

It's been said that the motto no longer has religious connotations, but it's very clear that many police and fire departments add the motto to their vehicles with overt religious intentions, sometimes bolding the word "God," and at other times adding biblical verses. I will include some links that show these trends: ? https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t34.0-12/12398970_10206863498918278_1132019079_n.jpg?oh=60f0c64258eec00b7b9b687dd8d8f9bc&oe=56926E68 ? https://www.facebook.com/SequatchieSheriff/?fref=photo ? http://originalmotto.us/2015/10/texas-sheriff-blatantly-violates-texas-constitution/ ? http://www.awkwardmomentsbible.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/stone_county_webpage.jpg ? http://www.arkansasmatters.com/news/local-news/people-positive-over-bible-verse-on-pottsville-police-car ? http://www.dothaneagle.com/news/local/hartford-police-using-blessed-are-the-peacemakers-decal-on-vehicles/article_205a0f54-4d02-11e5-b0db-af201d2f8ebe.html ? http://5newsonline.com/2016/01/25/in-god-we-trust-decals-for-leflore-county-law-enforcement-vehicles/ ? http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2015/08/national_group_asks_alabama_sh.html#incart_river ? http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/politics/texas_legislature/article/Texas-Gov-Greg-Abbott-backs-crosses-on-police-6740154.php
