E Pluribus Unum (From Many, One) should be the national motto again, as we are not under a "red scare" anymore, and millions of American's are good without God(s). plus it makes the Government Non-Inclusive and only represents a select group of people, not everyone. i urge you to reconsider, as Government is suppose to be for us all, not just the believers

I couldn't agree more. SO many times you hear politicians say "this is the way the forefathers wanted it" and yet in this regard we throw that out the window and directly change the motto THEY decided upon. Instead we shove a particular religion down the throats of every American who have any number of religious beliefs, not just the one "favorite".

It was wrong to change our Nation's Motto that stood the test of time until fears about Communism and the conservative right decided for us, that our founding fathers had it all wrong. They didn't have it wrong, it should be returned to its original state: E Pluribus Unum! If at any time, NOW is when we need to stand together, as one - we can fix this huge mistake!

E Pluribus Unum is the motto of the country and it's more then that in that one phrase, in those few letters, in one simple saying it empathized everything America was and had to stand for. America isn't a nation bounded by god, we're a nation bounded by unity, unity for one and all, and bounded by the simplest belief that no matter status, skin, or color when you step foot on this soil ready for a new life or to return to old that as long as you're honest, hardworking, kind, courteous YOU ARE AMERICAN. We are a nation bounded in belief that from every culture, people, and belief that entered this nation they formed to create one unique distinct people and one distinct country, America. E Pluribus Unum, of many ONE.

I believe we should go back to our original motto E PLURIBUS UNUM because it includes ALL the people of our great country not just the religious majority but also the non-religious people like myself.

In God we trust is a violation of the constitution. The separation of church and state was disregarded the day it became our national motto. Now religion is being forced to children's throats and those who do not believe are being ridiculed, bullied, and tormented for being different or not believing a fairytale.

Our founding fathers sought to bring us together through our diversity of though. Deists, atheists, liberal Christians for the majority, the sought to seperate us from England by not having a national church. By invoking the name of a controller god, we deny the original intent. Jefferson went so far as to create his own bible in which he removed all acts of divinity from the Gospels. James Madison stated "Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects." George Washington Refused to take communion. There are many other tales as well . We are not a nation of God. Take this religious revival phrase from our books.

Our founding fathers tried to make a unifying government. Let's not let religions divide us.

The government was founded to represent all Americans. To allow any religious motto or symbol to appear on any government document or structure goes against our founding father's principles and the constitution. What makes America great is its fairness in treating each of its citizens with equal dignity and respect.

It's well past time to end this tribute to McCarthy-era intolerance and return to pluralist values.

Please consider that there needs to be equality for those who do not believe. Our original motto is more profound and trancends beliefs and ideology making it accessible to all Americas.

Most of us are aware of the supreme courts interpretation that this motto can stand for the god of ones choosing. There are two major problems with that. The first is that not everyone believes in these gods. Yet, those of us who don't believe, are having it force fed to us on our currency; and now even worse, on the public property that our tax dollars help to pay for. It's akin to forcing Christians to pay for "praise be to Allah" on tax funded property. The second issue, and scariest, is that even with the courts vague interpretation of the motto, Christians seem to stake claim to it meaning their god and theirs only. Which if you ask me seems a lot like the government adopting the Christian religion. This motto seems to be envoking an extreme thought process in this country, where one group (Christians) feel like they are entitled more than anyone else to the benefits of our democratic government. According to the constitution this thought process is wrong. According to the men who wrote the constitution this thought process is down right dangerous.

First Amendment: Congress Shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Having "In God We Trust" as our motto, is respecting an establishment of religion and the motto needs to go back to E Pluribus Unum. The 'E Pluribus Unum' motto was thought up by, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin for America. In God We Trust was added as our Motto in 1956, under Dwight D Eisenhower, as a scare tactic. Since In God we Trust has been our motto, the motto has been nothing but diving, and has our government has had a Pandora's Box open for all religions. Anyone want Sharia Law in America,? if not, might want to change the motto. Futhermore, if the founding fathers knew what our national motto was they would be turning in their graves. In Thomas Jeffersons words: "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State." - Letter to Danbury Baptist Jan. 1, 1802. America needs to go back and keep church and state separate.
