The AKC CGC test could be required. It's standardized and could easily be used to evaluate the dogs. -

I have had 2 Dobermans, both of which have been certified Therapy Dogs, one of which was one of the first 30 dogs in the country to be certified as a Disaster Stress Relief dog. They have each had multiple performance titles and have been amazing family pets. There are entirely more dog bites associated with small dogs than with Dobermans, but I don't see Jack Russell Terriers on any agressive dog list.REPORT COMMENTS

Perhaps our military needs to look at the stresses placed on our military families, and support their canine family members rather than further burden our military families while our country is still officially at war.REPORT COMMENTS

There should not be ANY aggressive breed list - people are the problem not the animal.REPORT COMMENTS

Last year at the Doberman Pinscher National Specialty Show in Topeka, the Marines (now in their 80s) who trained and used the first military Dobermans on Guam during WWII were honored. Tell THEM that Dobermans are now banned from military bases - I dare you!REPORT COMMENTS

To ban a breed that has given its life to protect our country is ludicrous. I have owned and loved Dobermans for the past 30 years. They are loyal, loving family dogs.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it is an outrage that you should ban the Doberman after all they have done for you. My father is retired Navy and was a Marine for 4 yrs.I have had Dobermans for 20 yrs. and have found them to be nonthreathening and loving.REPORT COMMENTS

A breed that has been bred for precisely the qualities that make it suited to a family, the military or any other area where intelligence, trustworthiness and a willingness to please are important. Please base policy not on a particular breed but rather on the behavior of the individual dog (or owner). To ban the dobe is silly; I've had other breeds far less stable.REPORT COMMENTS

A breed that makes a fantastic family pet... a breed that is loyal, stable and among the most trainable of dogs... a breed that gave their lives for their military masters in WWII... and the US Army wants to BAN IT!!!????!!... who is the IDIOT that instituted this policy???... and WHY does any entire breed deserve bannishment for the mistakes made by it's HUMAN masters???... PURE LUNACY right out of the animal rights activists playbook!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I second the notion that any dog regardless of breed is subject to destructive and aggressive behavior. Unfortunately Dobermans get a bad rap as well as other tough looking dogs. And as a soldier and commissioned officer that has owned a Doberman myself, I understand the frustration of having to give up pets you love due to the military. I would like to see this policy changed and am an advocate for knowledgeable owners that must enroll their animals into obedience training prior to living in military housing. Such as is in effect for soldiers to ride motorcycles onto a military installation.REPORT COMMENTS

I have raised dobermans and they were sweet because I imprinted my gentleness on them as babies. They are among the 5 top dogs in intelligence and that makes them safe if raised properly. If you want to ban dog breeds because you think they can be trained to be weapons, then ban all weapons.REPORT COMMENTS
