It really makes a tremodous difference in people's lives that suffer from a disease which hair loss is an issue. Not vanity but self esteem is at stake.

Imagine being a bald 4th grade girl..who lost her hair due to a medical condition or chemo therapy. Imagine your parents can't afford the prosthetic hair necessary to restore your confidence so you can interact with your friends and peers...

This is not about vanity. It is about having a chance to live a normal, productive life in the face of a devastating illness. This is what insurance should be for.

I've been living with this disease for over 40yrs, and it's a shame that it's not consider as a medical condition through most insurance companies . I can't began to tell you all the trouble I have gone through trying to get approved for a cranial prothesis thought my insurance plan., and repeatedly keep getting turned down. I live to see the day that this new legislation will be passed in North Carolina.

For some individuals, their hair is a very central part of their self image. Critical to good health and healing.

Finding a cranial prosthesis for hair loss is hard enough (espescially for children)...knowing that I need to pay part or whole makes it even harder on everyone. There is enough medical bills and added bills that makes me not want to search for a prosthesis for my daughter. Vanity and self esteem issues make it so that I need to shell out the extra money. It's an added stress on all of us!

My wife and I own a hair salon. This is a serious need confidence booster for women with medical problems that causes them to lose their hair. When a person looks good they feel good or at least better when they are sick. This also could relieve stress that could improve the health of a person while saving money in medical expenses.

I know my family Dr. so I never told him about my trichtolomania disorder. This condition is so embarrassing for me. I speak to my therapist (which took 25 years to finally go to) and am desperate for a wig to boost my self esteem and to allow myself a proper hair coverage so I can feel confident in my daily life. I have not worked in 13 years. I am interested in going to work but need a wig to make me comfortable there. The mental condition is real and a wig is an appropriate step toward full treatment.

I am as single mother of a boy and a girl and since my daughter was born I waited for the day that her hair got long enough for us to share a mother-daughter hair day and moment where we could do up eachothers hair. about a year before she had long enough hair and was old enough to be interested i fell asleep with long gorgeous hair and woke up to about 25% of it gone in 2 huge spots then after I finally got in to see a dermotologist they recommended me trying a steroid in pill form to see if it would help before I made my decision about getting the scalp injextions. At the time my doctor said i would need between 150 and 200 infections, one right after the other for it to even have a chance at working. SHE SAID IT WOULD BE SEVERELY PAINFUL FOR ME!!!! So i took the pill and within less than 3 days i had lost ANOTHER "APPROX" 50% OF MY HAIR....I HAVE ALOPECIA AND IT HAS COMPLETELY RUINED THE PERSON I AM AND TAKEN AWAY THE FUN, LOVING AND ADVENTUROUS MOTHER TO MY KIDS. HAVING EVERYONE STARE AT ME ANYWHERE I GO DOESNT BOTHER ME AS MUCH AS HOW I LOOK AND FEEL ABOUT MYSELF. EVEN THO I HAVE TRIED EVERY SINGLE DAY NOT TO LET IT EFFECT ME....IT DOES NOT WORK....MY KIDS HAVENT EVER SAID IT OUT RIGHT BUT I KNOW THAT THEY ARE EMBARRASSED OF ME AND MY DAUGHTER ESP. AND EVEN THO SHE WONT TELL ME WHY I KNOW ITS BECUZ YOU NEVER SEE A BALD PRINCESS OR A MODEL IN A MAGAZINE THAT IS BALD OR EVEN A BALD ACTRESS ON T.V! DAUGHTERS THINK OF THEIR MOTHERS IN SAME SORTA WAY AS A SON THINKS OF A FATHER. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT A SON THINKS OF HIS FATHER AS A STRONG SUPER HEROE AND A MOTHER IN HER DAUGHTER'S EYES, IS A BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS WITH LONG GORGEOUS HAIR. SHE DOESN'T ASK ME TO EVEN DO HER HAIR AND SHES ONLY 7, SHE ALWAYS ASKS HER GRANDMA AND ANYTIME I ASK HER IF I CAN SHE SAYS "NO IT'S OKAY MOMMY, IT'S OKAY CUZ I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU MISS YOUR HAIR!" NOW YOU TELL ME THAT PEOPLE WITH MEDICAL HAIR LOSS DONT DESERVE THIS HELP CUZ IN MY OPINION WE DESERVE IT JUST AS MUCH AS PERSON THAT NEEDS A PROSTHEIS LEG OR ARM DESERVES IT.....ALOPECIA TOOK MY LIFE, MY CHILDREN'S MOTHER AND THE PERSON I AM AWAY FROM MY FAMILY, JUST LIKE SO MAY OTHERS SUFFERING FROM ALOPECIA, AND EVEN THOUGH HAVING A PROSTHESIS MOST LIKELY WONT FIX ALL THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES IT HAS CAUSED, WE DESERVE TO HAVE A CHANCE AT GETTING A PIECE OF OUR LIVES BACK!
