United Healthcare doesn't cover this. They should, as well as every other insurance company.

I have female pattern baldness and losing hair is very depressing. All the money I pay for insurance and never use it, I would like to get something for me that I really need out of my insurance money. If I have to pay for others who don't have insurance then give me a break and pay for something I need. Do something for us Americans for a change.

My daughter has lost her hair due to chemotherapy while fighting breast cancer. She is continuing to work as sales manager in a resort and can't be expected to perform her job without a natural looking prosthesis. It's difficult enough to go through all this without the added expense of this. I am retired and bought a human hair wig for her; she said it makes her feel normal again. What would she have done if I couldn't help her? She feels everyone stares at her when she wears a hat instead of the wig.

I lost the majority of my hair after my tour in Desert Storm. I tried seeing medical doctors during my military service and was prescribed steroids. This caused my hair to fallout at an even more alarming rate. After my retirement I asked for but received no service connected disability for my hair loss. My hair now only grows on 20% of my head. I have been unable to show my hair to the world since 1993. It is depressing and stressful. My self confidence and self awareness are low and the cost of continually replacing wigs that do not present a confident apperance and continually shed is costly. My relationships have suffered tremendously as a result of my hair loss. Whenever i see a wig commercial I cringe because it seems everyone is looking at me. My self confidence has not recovered. This is devasting. I cannot afford to continually buy unsuitable products but i can't afford not to either. Please help us.

Until this is something you experience in your life, you will never understand the emotional pain. How is it prosthetic legs are covered but prosthetic hair pieces are not? You can live without your leg, you can function minimally without your leg. But it makes you stand out in a bad way, it makes your clothes not fit, it makes you feel like an outcast. JUST LIKE NOT HAVING YOUR HAIR.

I have lost 90 percent of my hair in 8 weeks i cant expect to "grow it back" for 18 months but yet I have been denied coverage by my insurance company. How does this not be a covered medical expense?

I have been suffering with hair loss (alopecia) for over 30years. I have spend thousands of my own money to try to be normal and be able to walk out of house, go to work, etc. Over the years I also paid thousands for health care insurance without the ability to get any help for my condition...what happens to the thousands that people pay every year and never use??? I am now in a position that I can no longer afford a hair piece that makes me feel normal...it is starting to affect my everyday life, work, etc. Something needs to change....

Why is it that when it comes to mental health conditions, it is not recognize by insurance companies. they consider cranial prosthesis as cometic. Living with Alopecia is psychologically devastating, There is no cure for this disease.,so why is cranial prosthesis not considered as medically necessay? People who lose their hair due to chemotherapy will eventually grow their hair again, suffers of alopecia will not. We pay premiums just like people with conditons that cranial prosthesis are covered. No one wants to walk around with a bald head or with wigs that last a few weeks, because your insurance company won't cover the cost of a cranial prosthesis that can give us the ablity to walk outside of our homes as normal people and gain our sanity and life back.

I have a wig boutique and see many women with hair loss issues. If insurance companies pay for Viagra and penal implants for men--then they should pay for wigs (cranial prosthesis) for women with medical conditions causing hair loss. I have a 15 yo client with alopecia totalis--no hair. She was to play sports, be active, swim and be a normal teen ager. She cannot do so with the cheap 'wiggy' pieces. Congress - if it was your daughter, you would want her to have the best, most realistic hair piece. Come on guys! Do what is RIGHT!

There should be !00% CAP coverage for medical cranial prosthesis by insurance companies. Alopecia is a devastating disease. Everyone with Alopecia should have FULL COVERAGE to get the more expensive hair prosthesis to help them cope better in life!

This should not even be an issue. Hair loss for any reason is devastating, for any one. Especially, someone going through cancer treatments and other medical procedures.

This is great for African American women so they don't have to wear straight wig anymore. They can wear locks, two strand twist and more
