Cancer is bad enough. The stigma, pain, physical illness, fear. Wigs need to be covered. Its like requiring a post mastectomy patient to defer any reconstructive surgery.

Even though we have a state law requiring that they cover a cranial prosthesis for hair loss, the insurance company (UHC) told me that they do not cover it if medicare doesn't cover it. The law has been in effect since 2004. Does this mean that they have been refusing patients in spite of the law since 2004? It shows the need for a national law so it's clear and followed by insurance companies.

I have had the first two chemotherapy treatments for cancer and I am already experiencing extreme hair loss, adding to the emotional trauma of cancer and treatments. I will be needing a medical cranial prosthesis, am on a fixed retirees income and the cost will add to my already burdened expenses. I am partitioning Congress to have Medicare and my AARP UHC supplemental cover this medical cost.

Cranial prostheses for alopecia sufferers need to be covered by health insurance companies. People with alopecia are generally healthy otherwise, but deal with emotional issues and discrimination from others. A cranial prosthesis is not simply for cosmetic reasons, but for overall well-being and head protection. Complications due to smoking, overeating, lack of exercise, and other lifestyle CHOICES continue to rack up health expenses in this country every year, and are covered, for the most part, by health insurance companies. Living with alopecia is not a choice, and can have devastating effects to the afflicted. Please support cranial prosthesis coverage by health providers!

Autoimmune hair loss contributes directly to disability claims as this directly effects someone's ability to be hired, maintain gainful employment in the public and private sector. Hair loss directly impacts marital and personal relationships and is a direct corollary to depression and social anxiety. Many tax payer's dollars could be saved by requiring medical insurance to cover the direct affects of hair loss due to medical conditions. Thank you.

Alopecia and other medically related hair loss should be covered just as hair liss due to side effects fir treatment of perscriptions are covered FIRST because the other hair loss medical conditions are due to medical issuesnotdue to ingestion or application of products including chemo..
