Chronic pain patients and drug addicts are usually not the same person. I am a CP patient, I need pain meds to function and survive. I am dependent on them, not "addicted" to them and they do not get me "high". Please do not make us suffer any more than we already do. Thanks.

I've suffered from chronic pain for sixteen year's. I've tried ever option for healing possible. One of those was a spinal fusion that failed. I ended up worse off. Medicare is dropping the reimbursement for pain procedures. Doctors are not getting paid enough and won't do them. That means more pain for me. Opioids help but now even those are in the government crosshairs. I suffer every single day. These options for pain management are not available to those struggling financially. We need help now.

I had just moved from a different state, had let someone into my house, who ending up stealing my meds. Yes there is a police report. No my new dr didn't care. Stopped cold turkey after 20 something yrs. the worst part was the mind set. I found a new dr, who believed me, but now I like having no brain fog. I hate the pain, but we are always going to have it. I take 1 in am and Alene during day. It doesn't help as much, but I need backup in case they shut me down again. My mind can not go through that again!

I'm a chronic pain patient & have been 4 a long time. My pain was barely controlled by the dose I was on tell the beginning of this year (30 mg er morphine 3 times a day & up 2 8 15 mg ir morphine per day) but was reduced down 2 my current dose beginning of this year 2 max allowed by the cdc "guidelines" (30s down 2 2 times day & 15s down 2 4 a day!)! I've been a model patient from day 1 with my pain dr. I've always told him truth & have had more tests 4 other drugs then I can count 2 make sure that I'm not only taking what I'm supposed 2 be taking but 2 Check 2 see if I'm taking anything im NOT 2 be taking & I've had the results I'm supposed 2 have on every test! why am I basically having my quality of life stolen from me when I've had almost 15 years of doing everything right?! I used 2 volunteer @ a local animal rescue near me but now I can't even hardly leave my apartment?!

It has become an absolute disgrace how we, legitimate chronic and intractable pain patients areceiving currently being treated. We are looked upon with total disgust. WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS FIRST AND FOREMOST, Has everyone forgotten this? We have not asked to be in this position. I was once a working mother, a member of society. I made my parents, children and friends proud. Now, as humiliating as it is to admit, common street junkies and addicts have more rights than we do.... I've worked three jobs at once to support my family, most of the junkies certainly can't say that. I worked up until I physically, mentally and emotionally could no longer pull my share of work. In fact, I had lost that ability a long time prior, but I honestly feel that some of my coworkers and managers knew how much I truly loved my job and let me stay on longer than I should have. I'm asking to be treated fairly, humanely and for goodness sakes given a chance to receive decent medical care, MEDICATIONS AS MY PAIN MGMNT DR OF 12+"YEARS DEEMS NECESSARY. I don't come up with dirty urinalysis', I'm not out selling my medications, You see, I need mine. My medication is more than appropiately locked up in a gigantic gun safe. I'm not out doctor shopping. I don't think that a Pharmacist has an business questioning my medications/dosages, etc. Have they ever read my MRI reports? NO! Have they ever examined me?, NO! I'm not a whiney person overy pain as when I was brutally beaten by someone that I thought loved me I went to work the next day with multiple lumbar and sacrum/coccur fractures. I went to work the next day with a broken neck and didn't know it. So for me to admit and say Yes, I'm in horrible pain, Yes I am. It took years for me to admit to others what all I've been through, and to later be denied medications and appropriate medical treatment and proper therapy is NOTHING SHORT OF A TRAGEDY. My own government, THE ONES WE CHOOSE AND PAY, QUITE well too, HAVE COMPLETELY PUBLICLY SHAMED US. I'm being shamed and told I don't matter because I was almost beaten to death. SADLY IT ISN'T US LEGITIMATE CHTONIC PAIN PATIENTS THAT SHOULD BE SHAMED RIGHT NOW, IT'D OUR C GOVERNMENT WHO TRULY DOESN'T GIVE A GOOD DAMN ABOUT US, BUT CODDLES THE THIEVES, ADDICTS AND STREET JUNKIES. THIS IS A SAD SHAME. Normally I wouldn't wis this agony on anyone, but I do wish it to be felt and endured without any relief in site just as we are now. May God Have Mercy on Your Souls.

I am a published author of children's books and a mother -- neither of which would be possible without the judicious and responsible use of opioid medications to treat pain caused by the vicious genetic disease, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. I am very active in my healthcare, participate in physical therapy, receive injections, go through difficult surgeries, and generally seek out non-opioid treatments. Despite over a decade of effort, certain opioid medications remain the cornerstone of my pain management. I live with daily pain and fatigue -- opioids simply make it possible to care for myself and my son and not live in agony. I am active in support communities and am filled with grief and anger regarding the suffering I hear about daily from patients who have been denied care. And I can't help living in fear that I will be next.

Im a Chronic intractable pain patient who is currently on no medication at all. I cannot cook or clean or even shower daily. I cant take care of myself . I have had pain for 15 years and without medication I am bedridden with no quality of life. Id like to be able to function thats all to be able to properly care for myself. I understand the need to curb the addiction problem but the pendulum has swung to far to the opposite side to where people in pain cannot get medication they need. Please do not throw the pain patient under the bus. Help us to have some quality to our lives. I am part of a pain group that has had several members commit suicide already because they cannot tolerate the pain since their meds were reduced or taken away. The Government has taken these steps to save lives of addicts but now the death toll of pain patients are on the rise. What will you do to save us ?

Warning this is a long post but a must read: The CDC's Director says "the guidelines are meant for PCP's not pain management physicians". We must write back to her as her main quotes I've posted below: 1. "Patients such as yourself, with chronic pain deserve safe & effective pain management treatment". 2. "The guidelines is a set of voluntary recommendations intended to guide primary care providers". 3. "Specifically, the guideline includes a recommendation to taper or reduce dosage only when the harm outweighs patient benefits of opioid therapy. The guideline is not a rule, regulation, or law. It is not intended to deny access to opioids pain medication as an option for pain management. It is not intented to take away physician discretion & decision making." 4. "Furthermore, the CDC encourages physicians to continue to use their clinical judgement & base their treatment on what the know about their patients. It is the ultimate goal of the guidelines to ensure people who need them have access to opioids, while reducing opioid related deaths." The letter is dated 6/1/2016 after an Ex Pharmacist & chronic pain patient wrote 27 letters & finally got a letter not generated by a computer. It's signed Debra Houry, MD, MPH Director, National Centers for Injury Prevention and Control. She can be reached by writing to Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC) 1600 Clifton Rd., Atlanta GA 30329-4027. One can call CDC at 1-800-232-4636 and/or google "How to contact the CDC & also send an email directly. However, I choose to write my letter directly to Dr. Houry & addressed not only my own issues suffered but, those of 116 million chronic pain patients in the USA that've suffered from their UNETHICAL, BIASED & ILLEGAL GUIDELINES as listed by WLF. (Washington Law Firm) I posted the article on my FB, shared with many groups on & off FB & clearly wrote "This article contains 3 LETTERS written by Ex Pharmacist Richard Martin, RPh to the CDC regarding the guideline as he is a Chronic Pain Patient himself. He wants us to print & share with our physicians, especially p.m. docs. It was posted 1 1/2 - 2 months ago as I myself was informed 2/2016 (more tha a month prior to CDC Guidelines being made public) that I had 3 choices to make as I'd be reduced to 2 LA/4 IR meds in 90 days. A) Find another doctor B) I could start to lower now or C) I could continue my same meds & doses but, would be at 2 LA/4 IR's in 90 days. I choose option B, lowered myself as much as possible in 90 days, missed 12 days from work, suffered worse pain & 11 days of horrible withdrawal, lost my FT job, can no longer function as before, care for my myself, my family & I'm losing myself. I made appts for 4 other p.m. docs after being lowered & ALL 3 docs said they couldn't help me with medical records as requested & 1 returned my copay, didn't look at my records, so I never went to doc 4. I bring a witness to each appt, which is imperative. I doubt any physician - PCP, pain management,

THIS PAIN IS BEING MASKED BY MEDICATION INSTEAD OF ATTACKING THE INJURIES THAT STARTED THE PAIN WHILE MEDICATION LEADING TO ORGAN FAILURE... THIS PAIN I WOULD NEVER WISH ON ANYONE BUT IF THIS WHAT IT TAKE FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND MY PAIN/.... YOU NEED TO FEEL IT JUST TO UDERSTAND WHAT I AND MILLIONS ARE GOING THROUGH DAILY 24/7 BUT WE ALL KNOW IT BOILS DOWN TO THAT ALMIGHTY DOLLAR....MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL.

I am a chronic intractable pain patient and also owner and operator of a facebook support group. At this time because of the CDC Guidelines we have a member who is n the verge of suicide because not a single doctor on her team of docs will help her. This is just one of many of thousands of stories and people that have either followed through or are thinking about it. Who will accept responsibility for these useless deaths? The CDC? The Government? All of you are to blame and you should be ashamed of yourselves for thinking that people with chronic pain are just drug seekers and addicted to opiates. We Are NOT!!! We do not get the euphoric feeling from the drugs we get PAIN RELIEF!!!! What has happened to OUR rights? Why can we be not treated like human beings with a severe problem? We are not drug addicts and for the majority of use opiates are the only thing that calms our pain enough to help us have some sort of a normal life. Research talk to our doctors and untie their hands so we can be treated as we need to be.

I have been a Chronic Intractable Pain Patient since I was harmed in a Long Beach California hospital in 2009, where I almost lost my life...but instead lost my career, my abilities as a wife, mother...woman. Since relocating to Montana in June 2015, I have been turned away, refused medical care and treated like a common criminal by the medical community and nearly left to die on my own....Adequate Pain Management is a fundamental Human Right.

You folks need to wake up and quit treating pain as if it doesnt exist. I can bet that up there, is someone in pain and is going thru the same hell that us sufferers are too. Its wrong, for DEA, CDC, FDA.. All to be in our healthcare. What happened to our rights as Americans to have freedom. Its been stripped by these companies that want to come in and take over our healthcare. Privacy on our healthcare isnt privacy anymore..... Wake up! I know that there can't be one person up there on Capitol Hill that isnt going thru the hell that we are, and probably not getting questioned by any of those companies.... Its cruel for us to feel that we have no rights... What has happened to our freedom .. Its spilled out right here from the Constitution..... The general welfare phrase does not change the fact that our nation?s government is based on delegated powers, and the Constitution specifically spells out which powers are delegated. The Constitution is clear about the matter: the people of the United States have the right to set their own health care priorities, to pay for what they choose to pay for, to direct the paths of their own lives, and to live with the consequences of the path they take?without interference from the nation?s central government.
