When I lived in Fl I got the meds I needed so that I could function like a real person. Upon moving back to NC, I'm told I can't have them. Which puts me squarely back in bed. Ridiculous to stop people from living their best life.

There are those of us who live with real and treatable pain. Why shouldn't we have any chance at a quality life because of those who abuse medication? If we where diabetics you would not take away.our insulin? If we had cancer you would not withhold chemo? There is an assumption that constant pain is bearable. IT IS NOT! It leaves you bedridden,ALONE ,depressed and that is no life at all. Instead of tying our doctors hands help us! Our lives matter!

My name is Paula ,just like to start of by letting you know that I went to a Hospital ER after weeks of being sick,,I was taking pain Meds under a Doctors orders and had been on the same dose for 10+ years,,I went to the ER after not being able to hold food down and after losing over 12 pounds of weight,,I did not want to go but due to my Families insistence and because I could no longer bare the pain,I reluctantly went..First off as soon as they realized I was taking pain Meds the whole treatment of me went to being totally being accused of being there seeking drugs,,mind You this was all decided before there were any kind of testing done,,I was left laying on a gurney for hours in a hall way,,I understand a Hospital being busy and at times overused, but to leave me lay there like this with not even checking me to see what kind of agony I was suffering,,is beyond barbaric and evil,,they would not even treat me for pain and I was in so much pain that the Meds I had of my own didn't touch the kind of pain I was suffering from,,all this aside,,I had an intestinal blockage that after a 2day agony of laying there was sent home with a drain sticking out my back into my intestines,,after a week at home I almost died from the infection that took over all my intestines,,I ended up losing 14 ft of my intestines plus sigmoid was so infected it as well had to be removed,,all of this could and would have been prevented had I not been treated like a drug seeker and treated more like a Human Being,,I will no longer go to any Hospital or Clunic due to the way I was treated ,,It's a shame as they could have looked at my chart and seen for themselves that I am not or ever was a drug Seeger of any kind,,this is a travesty of the healthcare system and sadly I will choose death before I'll ever return to any Hospital in my life,,because of the treatment I received I now have to wear a bag to pass waste from my body,,,all because They thought I wanted a Friggin drug that I could if I wanted go to the streets to get,,I would not have to lay in a Hospital and suffer more than anytime I my life to obtain a drug,,the addicts can get drugs anytime they want or need them ,,but I myself laid for days losing my guts all because someone thought I needed a drug to get high on,,I had my own Meds at home if I. Wanted them but no I was left to die all because a pill meant more than my life,,I Promise I'll die first before I ever go to a Hospital ever again and be treated worse than garbage because we treat our animals better when they suffer than we do Human Beings ,,Shame on This System you call a Hospital that is killing People such as myself all because you think and treat all people as if we are drug seekers,,Because I'd The treatment I didn't receive,,I can no longer look at my body in a mirror because it makes me want to end my life,,Thanks to what used to be one of the greatest Hospital Systems in the world,,it does not even hold a candle to third world Countries Hospitals,

If you have never experienced the pain of a slipped disk, bulging or herniated disc, then u haven't felt the pain of not being able to get up out of the bed with out it literally taking 5 to 7 minutes. You take it for granted that you can just jump right up and start your day with no issues. You take it for granted that you can just grab up your 3 year old child and hug and love on them without being in agonizing pain. Congratulations you have probably not had to work a strenuously hard manual labor job or been in a terrible car wreck that completely blew your back out and left you unable to provide for your family. You have never felt the depression of not being able to interact with your children or provide them with the things they need financially. Count yourself blessed and STOP TAKING IT FOR GRANTED!!! It's the simple thing like that, that we have lost in our lives and the things our families have lost from us!!!

Please, please listen to all the chronic pain patients that are crying out for help. We are not addicts, nor are we junkies looking for the next fix. What we ARE are people who are suffering. We are human being with the basic human right to have our pain controlled, at least to a level that is tolerable that allows us to be a participant in life, not spend the rest of our days trapped in a bed and becoming a burden on our families. I have Adhesive Arachnoiditis, a debilitating illness that causes chronic, intractable, and yes, suicide level pain. Many people with this disease have taken their own lives because the pain is so severe. For those of us that have adequate pain control, we are able to function and live semi productive lives. If these life saving medications are continuously denied, we have nothing. No hope of ever leaving the bed again. The CDC guidelines were written in secret, without any input of the ones that know chronic pain the best. Now, the Surgeon General wants to inflict more fear into physicians office's with the ridiculous "pocket card." One size does not fit all when it comes to treating chronic pain. With over 100 million people in the US suffering from chronic pain, chances are YOU know someone living with pain on a daily basis. We need the help of our government, someone to stand up for us and the way we are being treated. Will it be you? I hope and pray it is.
