We, his parents knew him well. A fellow officer who also knew him well commented that "Mike was the officer I could never be". He graduated at the top of his class at the Marine Military Academy and with high honors at the US Naval Academy. He was compassionate, a devoted father, a triathlon participant, fighter pilot, JAG trained at three progressively higher levels and judge on the Corps toughest cases: Haditha and Aveano.
