How about we make five less tanks and use that money to fund it? It's only five tanks.May 23rd, 2012Someone from Potsdam, NY signed.

This measure does not save any money. It allows non-peers who are not on the funding review boards to decide to arbitrarily exclude an entire area of pertinent scholarship that is critical for study of the political process and its implications under a variety of key circumstances. This seems to go against the very motivations that should inspire our representatives -- to have access to the research-based, informed interpretations of current political dynamics and situations -- from scholars with a wide variety of political backgrounds. This should be seen as a gift of great value. The re-direct funding away from these endeavors seems to imply fear of educated assessment of our political world. This is a sad message to be sent by our own representatives.REPORT COMMENTS

We need social science research so that policy makers have the information they need to make decisions and set policy directions.REPORT COMMENTS

NSF funding has helped political scientists answer important questions, vital to the health of our country, and which informs our policymaking. How can we promote democracy in other nations? How do we promote voting in uninformed populations? How do changes in foreign aid flows affect peace? These are the kinds of critical questions that political science can help us answer.REPORT COMMENTS

As a political science professor, I implore Senators Brown and Kerry to recognize the importance of NSF-funded research to the advancement of knowledge. These grants fund important research but they also fund doctoral students and help defray our university's overhead costs. With state governments slashing support for public higher education, NSF funding is all the more important source of funding for universities if we are to fulfill our research mission.REPORT COMMENTS
