I am a faculty member who relies upon data from the ACS on a weekly basis. Our communities need to see how issues of income, poverty, homeownership, education, and more affect their wellbeing and how these issues are changing over the years. The ACS is the ONLY source for these data and must not be cancelled. Know too that the decision to cancel the long form of the Census means that we are unable get these data elsewhere - though once every ten years is completely inadequate even if it were returned. The benefit of the long form meant that we could understand what was happening to smaller communities (at least every ten years) because of the much larger sample sizes that are involved in Census. If we are concerned with community health and wellbeing, we need both the ACS and the return to the long form of the Census for 2020.

As Chair of my department I want to emphasize the importance of the survey for sociological research and for teaching undergraduates and graduates. The loss of these data will seriously handicap the ability of the next generation of social scientists to advance our understanding of US society.

I use these data for my dissertation research. The ACS allows me to examine trends in racial/ethnic inequalities in metropolitan areas. Elimination of the survey would deprive us of an essential tool for studying inequality over time and between places.

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at Princeton University. This would be equivalent to intellectual suicide.

It is inconceivable in today's global economy that an advanced nation would choose not to collect this data critical for monitoring and creating policy to improve the standard of living of all of its citizens.

Reducing the census to only 10 questions was the first step to turning a literal blind eye to the people of our nation. Keep our eyes open - do not eliminate the ACS.

I use data from this survey in my American Government classes. Shame on you for not making information about American society public information!

Information collected in the ACS is extremely valuable both in the present and for future historians seeking to understand our society, and economy. Discontinuing funding would be profoundly disabling to the country, and would cost far more than it saves.

The effect of eliminating the American Community Survey will have immediate and long-term consequences. I do not understand why anyone would want to live in ignorance when we have the potential to collect valuable information that directly contributes to the health of American citizens. This is a disgrace.

It is imperative that we keep the ACS. This data provides essential information about our communities that is used for community planning, social services, law enforcement, economic status, and healthcare needs. It is either the result of ignorance or a calculated attempt to hide the ongoing injustices and needs that continue in our communities.

Once again a partisan attempt to eliminate the collection of data that might demonstrate need or injustice and hold government accountable. This bill must be stopped. We need more factual information not less.
