I agree with everyone else's comments. Although we appreciate the loan, it is pretty unfair that those who bought their homes in 2009 and 2010 get their loans forgiven.Apr 11th, 2016Someone from Jeffersonville, IN writes:
Complete BS. I'm having to pay back every year. My brother closed on his house a few months after me....doesn't owe a dime. How is that fair????REPORT COMMENTS

Had we closed on our house a mere 40 days later we would not have had to pay the credit back.REPORT COMMENTS

I really appreciated the opportunity to receive the 2008 first time home buyers credit in 2008 but feel it's unfair that the following year others were given a better deal that does not have to be repaid. Please consider forgiving the loan payback!REPORT COMMENTS

So unfair that i have to pay back the loan when others don't. Bought my house DEC 2008 and got the 7500 tax loan that i have to pay back and a month later you roll out an 8000 tax credit that no one has to pay back! Very unfair!!!REPORT COMMENTS

This makes absolutely no sense! Having one group of people repay a loan that others are not required to repay. How is that fair? Repayment should be eliminated and the money that has already been repaid, should be returned!!!REPORT COMMENTS

As someone who has now been in the house for more than 7 years and paid back $3500 of it, I think we can establish I did my part. I bought, made improvements and have repaid in good faith. Let's end this ridiculousness already before I start OWING federal taxes. This year's refund after my $500 repayment is a whopping $86. Absurd this has lingered for so long.REPORT COMMENTS

I think this is absolutly ridiculous. I lived in my house for 8 years and just sold it and now have to pay back the credit not to mention I have already paid $2500 towards the $7500. Yet if I would have bought in 09 I would be free and clear!REPORT COMMENTS

I think its completely unfair that we should have to repay, when the buyers in 2009 shouldnt have to. I also believe that its completely unfair that they had in place, a clause that the buyers from 2008 were not going to be required to repay, and at the very last minute it was removed just before the bill passed!REPORT COMMENTS

I received The tax credit loan for first time homebuyers in 2008. It was for $7500 with a payback over 15 years at $500 a year. Several months after getting this tax credit they offered it again for $8000 but this group of people do not have to pay back their loan. I do not think this is fair. Would you please consider forgiving this tax credit loan and refunding the amount paid. I think that this is only fair since the other group did not have to pay back their money and they got more. Could you please reconsider this and make it fair to all of us that got the 2008 tax credit loan. Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

The fact that I bought my home just nine months before the government decided to *give* $8000 dollars to home purchasers in 2009, is confusing, frustrating, and unfair. Really, the $7500 credit I received in 2008 wasn't a credit, but rather a loan to be repaid over 15 years. Congress, please re-visit this issue and forgive the remaining balances owed and refund the "credit" that has been repaid. It is the right thing to do!REPORT COMMENTS
