I served as a US Marine, prior to my discharge I had no programs or counsel offered to me. Within a month of my returning home I was already incarcerated for false allegations & later was diagnosed as bipolar. I attempted suicide in 2004. Now I'm lucky if I can find a job even at minimum wage. Just imagine how the US would be if congress & the president focused on the honor that the US claims to bestow? We wouldn't have any immigration issues, we wouldn't need Vets First. Instead us veterans are overlooked & left out completely, in my home state of Pennsylvania there is no Veterans Outreach programs. I apply to Letterkenny Army Depot, in my home town of Chambersburg, PA & watch as teens & recent high school grads are given top dollar employment. I'm 35, seperated, living at home with my mother, I own no property or vehicle. I've been uneployed since Aug. 2009 & was the recent victim of workplace discrimination based on my mental stability. I am a high school grad, I graduated from a vocational school where I studied mechanical drafting where I graduated in the top of my class. I even took a spanish as an evening course at a local college & I still can't find a job, but better yet, I don't have any health insurance & the local health clinics actually turn me away as I don't have health insurance. The local spanish community has no problem with PA Welfare or in the local free clinics & being of latino decent its absolutely disgusting to see the way veterans are continually overlooked to make way for the next large immigrant family or to better fund underage drinking via employment at military civilian jobs that even with a 5 point preference, I still can't get. So in short my message to congress, do you're damn job! Get it right! Or get out! The veterans coming home deserve better tratment other than just respect. They deserve good paying jobs, health care & head of line privelage! Its a crime for an employer or health care provider to ignore, overlook or not hire a qualified vet! Congress you need to right this justice! As a US Marine I've suffered poverty, homelessness, & medical issues with no attention for over 15 years! Illegal aliens & immigrants have been living large while veterans are just left to die in the streets of the very country we vowed to defend. Thanks for the spit in the face Congress! You might as well just take down the flags in Washington DC as obviously the blood, lives & families that are so lovingly volunteered & sacrificed to maintain obviously don't mean a thing to you! Maybe its true what they say, all politicians really are just cowards! Semper Fidelis & God Bless the USA & the fighting spirit of all servicemembers.Jul 15th, 2010Someone from Takoma Park, MD signed.

It is outrageous that our soldiers do not get the support they need after their service, when sent into horrific situations during their service. Remember their humanity and remember YOURS. Help them, please.REPORT COMMENTS

Saw Ron Zaleski on the news this evening crossing though Central PA and was truly inspired by the story. Veterans deserve the very best this country can offer - no excuses.REPORT COMMENTS
