Why does the Army think the National Guard is the savings bank and loan? Rob from Peter to pay Paul when ISIS, Iran and Russia are knocking at the front gates. Let me know when the Active Duty gets tired of deployments again...or don't.Nov 19th, 2014Someone from Hermitage, PA signed.

We need to keep our Guard with the equipment that they have and have trained on to be the best on what they do.REPORT COMMENTS

I have flown both AH64As and AH64Ds for the PA National Guard over the last 7 years. I currently serve as a flight instructor in the 64D. I can tell you that National Guard pilots are significantly better trained and fly significantly better maintained aircraft than their Active Duty counterparts. Big Army's attitude toward the National Guard has always been "it's you and me until it's you or me, and then it's me." At the beginning of the post-9/11 conflicts, National Guard involvement was minimal until Active Duty units became tired, bloodied or attrited to the point of combat ineffectiveness. As the conflict progressed, National Guard units were rotated into the conflict with increasing frequency. At present day, at the (near-) end of the campaign, the National Guard has accrued an incredible amount of combat experience that will be completely invalidated if they lose their aircraft. While some people will stay and transition to different airframes, many will leave simply because their beloved aircraft and its unique mission have been fully relegated to the Active component. Please don't allow this to happen. The American people have invested a tremendous amount of resources into their Guard attack pilots, aircraft, facilities and support. To allow the Active component to just take them in order to avoid trimming some of their own fat/waste would be completely idiotic.REPORT COMMENTS

I served 13 years on active duty and 12 years in the National Guard, most of that time as an Apache pilot. The National Guard maintains their aircraft better than the active duty because there is less turnover in the Guard and the mechanics have more experience. The same is true for the pilots in the NG. If the Apaches are taken out of the NG, The Army will pay more for a less effective force.REPORT COMMENTS

The National Guard is the best spent dollar in today's defense. The NG aviator is as well trained and qualified as any active duty pilot and more so in most cases. Taking the Apaches out of the NG is a political active duty decision not a thought out best for the country decision.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that we should protect and support the livelihood of those in the National Guard, who have sacrificed so much for us to maintain our American freedoms. Many of them have not only served us here at home, but have also risked their lives by serving abroad. I agree with the military creed of leaving no man behind. I also believe that we should not leave any National Guard member behind by taking away their Apache aircraft.REPORT COMMENTS
