This should not happen we need the skill level across active duty and the guard.Nov 14th, 2014Someone from Layton, UT writes:
When an AD unit has a mission reassignment (I went through several during my three decades of service), the service members are reassigned to new bases/posts, as they would have expected to do within a few years anyway. When you do that to the Guard, you rip their experience completely out of the National Defense equation, leaving huge, gaping holes that cannot be refilled. Most Guard members are committed to a career in their service. Many AD members are not. This proposal to tear the Apaches out of the Guard is political rather than rational. Please don't do it!REPORT COMMENTS

As an American citizen and taxpayer, it greatly concerns me that the Active Duty has the misguided intention of commandeering Apaches from the National Guard. It does not make fiscal sense to dismantle and relocate these aircraft at an unnecessary cost to the public. Nor does it make sense to then need to train AD personnel to operate these aircraft when we have highly qualified NG pilots who haven already gone through expensive, strenuous training. And, because they serve part time at a fraction of the cost of full time AD, are a better choice financially in that regard as well. Please reconsider this ill advised proposal and leave the Apache aircraft in the extremely capable hands of the National Guard. The American taxpayers deserve to have their taxes managed wisely and will thank you for doing so.REPORT COMMENTS

It has been proven that the National Guard accomplishes the mission better, faster and more cost effective then Active Duty. Keep Apache assets and combat power in the NG.REPORT COMMENTS

NG Apache units only cost 42 % of what the active duty cost. Several NG Apache units have deployed 3 times since 11 Sept 2001, these NG Apaches units deployed every time they were asked. The deployment time lines are controlled by the active duty. These NG Apache units also conducted the hard and complex missions with Tier 1 special ops units since there are many cases in which the only Apache unit in Afghanistan was a NG unit. The NG Apache pilot error class A accident rate in the last 5 years is significantly better than the active duty. NG Apache aviators are much more experienced as a whole than the active duty that has a very high turnover rate.REPORT COMMENTS

The Army National Guard is the repository of aviation talent for the Army. To do away with these combat-proven units ranks right up there with Custer's evaluation of the situation at the Little Big Horn!REPORT COMMENTS
