On some future battlefield the Regular Army is going to regret de-activating these National Guard Attack/Recon battalions.

I am a National Guard member and a student pilot in training to fly Apaches. I like many National Guard Apache pilots am a civilian aviator as well, and this breadth of experience gives us immeasurable advantages that contribute to the Total Force down range, possessing equal military flight training beside our Regular Army brethren, at a fraction of the cost to the taxpayer. AH-64s belong in the National Guard as well as the Regular Army; the synergy of Regular Army and National Guard Apache pilots', maintainers', and crew chiefs' collective backgrounds ensures our victory on the field of battle.

Removing the Apache helicopters from the National Guard is a huge mistake. It is a waste of taxpayer money, because the pilots will either leave the Guard or need retrained for a different job. In addition, the Guard has played an active role in recent wars and needs the Apaches as much as the active duty Army needs them.

To my Congressman and Senators; Those that have been in war understand Murphy's Law of Combat, the best laid plans never survive first contact with the enemy. A strong active military is key to our national security initiatives abroad however a strong home defense force is also a necessity. The best defense is one you hopefully never have to use but why castrate the National Guard of it's attach helicopter capabilities, there is plenty of cost savings to be found if one trims the fat off of waste such as the Joint Strike Fighter which can barely get off the ground let alone fight a real war that is not simulated. Just my two cents as an Iraqi Freedom veteran and one who's company continues to support our global warfighing efforts by providing cost effective airlift capabilities to our service members worldwide, thank you for your time and efforts.
