Why is the government making such a high profit off the backs of people who are just trying to get an education in an effort to better support their families and contribute to the economy? It's a predatory and corrupt system designed to keep borrowers sentenced to a lifetime of indentured servitude. I graduated owing $56,000 (which I was more than willing to pay back. I have paid $71,000 back on that original loan and I currently owe $78,000! I have never been in default. This corrupt system needs to change!

If student and parent loan borrowers were given the same rights and protections as every other debtor in this country, we would guaranty a HUGE outflow of spending on our parts; we would be able to get married/buy cars/houses/clothes/very occasionally take a vacation...We are not asking for our loans to be wiped away (at least most of us aren't) but what we need is FAIRNESS! Student and Parent Plus loans that originated at $20,000 grow to $40,000...many of us have loans topping $100,000--because we wanted bachelors' degrees! Why the heavy punishment ?Consolidation loans come with huge (hidden) fees that are capitalized into the loans...late fess/servicing fees/collection fees/origination fees...you name the fee...are all added in and capitalized while the payments (the only payments that are affordable) do not even make a dent. In PERPETUITY. Student loan borrowers and their parents who've tried to help them no longer have lives worth living. Do you people in Congress realize this?

There is no other social/environmental/ or financial issue of greater detriment to our country right now than student loan debt. The government imposed interest on student loans is choking our economy, destroying the rights of millions to freedom from undue hardship, and exponentially increasing the gap between the very wealthy and the poor.
