It's ridiculous that the federal government and its affiliated student loan servicers come before housing, transportation, insurance, and a host of other things college students and graduates must pay for. We can discharge poor financial planning, medical bills, or just plain bad luck in bankruptcy, but we cannot discharge the enormous amount of debt most of us have to take on in an effort to become more productive members of society. This is immoral. Just having to PAY for post-secondary education is almost unheard of in other developed countries, much less being saddled with debt that in many cases is considerably more than our housing costs. It's long past time to allow student debt to be discharged in bankruptcy with no strings attached or additional hoops to jump through. Respect those of us who choose education. Respect the fact that rising costs of education put it either out of reach for most, or requires us to pay back huge amounts of money that many of us simply cannot afford.Sep 19th, 2015Someone from Lees Summit, MO signed.
