As a tax payer and college graduate I'm thankful for Student Loans. They've given me the opportunity to pursue my interests. However the extreme debt burden created by these loans, especially PRIVATE STUDENT LOANS, has put a lot of my dreams on hold. I have to work NOT to go into default at a job I don't care for as my chosen career will take time to earn enough to comfortably pay my debts and do what I love. But I can't do what I love and have a degree in because it doesn't pay enough to to allow me that. I have a wife and daughter and they need stability. Returning bankruptcy doesn't mean people will be able to negotiate better terms with lenders and if need be file for bankruptcy which is the true last resort. Returning this necessary free market function will stabilize the cost of college and allow us ALL to live better and with more income we can ALL stimulate economic growth.

This is just the tip of the iceberg on dealing with abuses of student loans. Banks need to held responsible for manipulating loans so principle is never paid down and people remain in debt for life. This creates a state of indentured servitude toward the financial industry. This is criminal!

HELP! Please Help! I really need somebody's help regarding my student loans. I should title this.. How New York State HESC killed me... again some one please help.. I was dislocated from a job that I had since I was 17 years old. I was put on unemployment for the first time in my life. That was in 1990. I was forced to work several minimum wage jobs. NYS unemployment services told me to go back to college and get a degree to get a high paying job. I went to school, Got out and went to work. I went through a divorce, child support, court costs and the like. It pauperized me. The student loans were about $30,000. I have paid about $10,000 of these loans. I could not pay the monthly loan amount that was wanted due to my situation. Please listen.. $30,000 paid $10,000 Are you following the math? Now NYSHESC states all my payments have gone to loan interest. NYSHESC has added an additional $20,000 plus in interest and collection costs and sent to collections. So the amount is approaching $60,000 now. I am unemployed and I'm 56 years old. I live in a 1960 10x50 mobile home on a small piece of land in the country which I own. HESC has sent this to seven different collection agencies to date. I am being, followed, stalked and harassed by collection agencies. I will never be able to pay this inflated loan amount back. I sent a letter last September to NYSHESC and offered $7,500 to settle the loan. NYSHESC refuses to settle I got a phone call last fall from HESC. The woman threatened me and she said that they are going to take my home from me if I don?t sign for a new loan from Direct Loans accepting the full amount that HESC has added on. She said they will put me in a government apartment. Then she said and that will be just a start. She said that this is never going to go away.
