If your goal is to promote rapid job growth amongst blue-collar workers who had your vote, I would like to remind you that there are thousands of scientific professionals who have worked hard to defend cultural resources in exchange for salaries that barely keep us above the line of poverty in cities where the cost of living has increased. Money and selfish human progress should never come before the protection of the land we, as immigrants, took from those rightful first American citizens. Do you truly want to teach our children that environmental resources worldwide are less vital than pillaging our country's non-renewable resources for quick economic gain? Think about this.REPORT COMMENTS

Historic sites are a public trust and we should all be willing to support them. However, without federal legislation mandating such efforts there is no guarantee that these pieces of the past will be preserved for posterity. I therefore urge you to pass either HR 2817 or, preferably, the section of S. 2012 that permanently reauthorizes HPF.REPORT COMMENTS

Remember what was said recently by one of the nation's SHPOs: "It is not about saving the past, but using our legacy of historic resources to plan for a better future." And, "the greenest building is the one already built."REPORT COMMENTS
