I believe all laws should apply to everyone from the President on down. Doesn't matter what station they hold! And I believe that after the age of 65 all members of Congress and the House of Representatives should retire. Or after 2 terms they should retire.

Let us get some common sense in the way we pay our elected officials and set conditions for compensation and tenure. Term limits need to be established and higher ethical standards established and enforced. Too many are not being held accountable for their actions or inactions!

It is unfair that members of Congress are exempt from the very same laws they say the citizens must abide by. I stand in support of this amendment!

So a good way for people in Congress to stay above the law is keep passing laws that keeps them above the law. It's time people to come together because there is no power in just one standing along.

"LEVELING" is LONG OVERDUE... We have a person in the Oval Office who BRAGS about not paying his taxes...and does not abide by his Oath of Office...and we have members of Congress who put themselves ABOVE many of the laws they pass and/or Pass laws that give them benefits that are not accessible by other citizens... I am VERY ANGRY about the fact that Children of Congress members do not have to pay back their college student loans. Staffers of Congress family members are also exempt from having to pay back student loans. Members of Congress can retire at full pay after only one term. Members of Congress have exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed, under which ordinary citizens must live. For example, they are exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment. And as the latest example, they have exempted themselves from Healthcare Reform, in all of its aspects. We must not tolerate an elite class of such people, elected as public servants and then putting themselves above the law...and REPEATEDLY VIOLATE the Oath of Office...WE CITIZENS WANT THE "COMMON WELFARE AND OUR COUNTRY...BACK...!!! I support this Amendment to the US Constitution ...and I want the SAME for Illinois state Constitution...!!!

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States." I support this, put it into law!

This is against the law. Why do they think they're above it? I am so fed up with government lies, cover ups, hypocrisy....I could go on and on but what's the point? Stop the ******** and act like responsible adults who are honest and fair. Live the Golden Rule for a change. You might be surprised that it works.

This is about equality and respect. For instance The Sarbanes-Oxley Act The Enron and WorldCom scandals prompted the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Congress wanted to protect shareholders and the general public from future accounting errors and fraudulent practices by companies, as well as improve the accuracy of corporate disclosures.CEOs of public companies now face fines up to $5 million and 20 years behind bars if they report faulty numbers. However, members of Congress can mislead the nation with budget and reporting numbers they pull out of thin air and not worry about retribution. Also, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gives us the right to request access to records from any federal agency. It is often described as the law that keeps citizens in-the-know about their government. Federal agencies are required to disclose any information requested under the FOIA unless it falls under one of nine exemptions that protect interests such as personal privacy, national security and law enforcement. You can request reports from federal agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Homeland Security, and even the CIA. But don’t bother asking your representative or senators for copies of documents they have on a pending bill or anything else for that matter. That’s because when they enacted the FOIA in 1966, they tailored the law to fit their needs and chose to exempt themselves. Furthermore, Overtime pay Millions of salaried workers will be directly impacted by Washington’s decision to expand overtime pay. Under this new rule, effective Dec. 1, salaried employees making up to $47,476 per year will get time-and-a-half pay if they work more than 40 hours per week. That’s more than double the current threshold of $23,660. Many in Congress were all for it … that is until they realized the new rules would apply to them, too. Their problem: Many who work for Congress — such as staff assistants, press assistants and legislative aides — more often than not — work long hours and make less than $50,000. Finally, Despite rumors flying around social media sites, the Affordable Care Act did not specifically exempt Congress. Members and staff were tossed out of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program and could only get health benefits through one of the law’s new exchanges. On top of that, they would no longer keep receiving a taxpayer contribution of up to $12,000 toward their premiums. Realizing that the law they just passed would also apply to them, Congress panicked. But being the crafty attorneys that they are, our legislators did an end run around the law. In a nutshell, here’s how they did it …Employers with fewer than 50 employees are exempt from Obamacare. Those employers can purchase health insurance coverage for its employees through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). With that in mind, officials who administer benefits for Congress claimed that the 435-member House had only 45 members and 45 staffers, while the 100-member Senate had only 45 employees total. Those numbers qualify Congress as a small business, exempt it from Obamacare, and allow each member and staffer to continue to receive as much as $12,000 in subsidies. Pretty slick, huh?

If you want to see change in Congress, make it law that each representative cannot defer their wealth to have it invested, their assets are frozen, they must "subsist" only on what they get paid monthly as a paycheck. Make the law state they are not allow to invest in anything what so ever while they are in Congress and service to the nation. Not Blind Investing, not Deferring Wealth. That would be the beginning of people coming "across the aisle", because right now it's ALL about creating stock returns on the healthcare system. How do I know? I read Mitt Romney made $7 million on ACA. Congress should also not have the right to determine votes on issues that affect us all, such as entering another country or declaring war until there are satisfactory reason, something that makes sense. Not basically "we are blowing up Iraq to look for something". Do you blow your living room up to find your car keys?
