I started having symptoms in may of 2012. In may of 2014 I had my gallbladder removed. It is now January of 2015. In the past two and a half years I have been to the emergency room and or admitted for the violent vomiting that is uncontrollable while in a Gastroperisis flare up. I've been to the same er twice in a day more than once. I do not have a gi doctor as no one is willing to take me at this severity. I'm currently waiting to have a gastric pacer stimulator in my abdomen. I intake 300-600 calories a day and have lost 40 lbs since Oct, yes just a few months ago. I have spent as long as 8 days in the hospital away from my children. I lost a 10 year career with a major retail cooperation. My family lost $45,000 a year. I now well over $100,000 in medical debt. Mine is idiopathic from a connective tissue disease called ehlers danlos syndrome. Thank you

I have a dear friend who has suffered with this for over 8 years. She suffered in silence for most of that time; only recently has she found the name for the condition that has greatly diminished her quality of life. This truly is a disabling illness.

This disease is damaging peoples lives daily, to not call this disease a disability is wrong. Even though, those that have this horrible disease are some of the strongest I know.

I have seen the impact of this terrible disease. It should be added to the disability list.

Please realize that gastroparesis is one of the most debilitating and demeaning disorders that has the ability to completely ruin a person and leave the person absolutely hopeless. The patient lives in chronic horrid constant pain that does not respond to medication, has many secondary debilitating conditions as a result of gastroparesis (Barrett's esophagus, chronic gastrointestinal infections, loss of teeth to name a few) and the lack of social understanding makes this one of the worst disorders. The malnutrition, complete inability to eat and constant vomiting and being fed through feeding tubes goes without saying. Making sure these people do not end up on the street is the least thing we can do for them.
