In this time of global food imports and exports, it is imperative that all Americans accept the responsibility of what is put into the food chain, whether we consume those products in the U.S. or not. Horses are listed as companion animals through the FDA in order to receive veterinary drugs banned from all food producing animals. The U.S. has no tracking system for the horses which have received these drugs. When horses are recieved at the auction houses, they come from various sources. Some have been riding horses, some are brood mares, some are wild horses. Once they are thrown into a pen for kil buyers, they resort to their herd mentality and there is no way to separate those which have been exposed to these banned drugs from those who are feral or wild ...and have not. The horse industry must stop using the food chain as it's convenient disposal system. The testing of all food producing animals is by testing the kidney of the animal for these veterinary drugs. The USDA has decided to test only the meat of every 50 ton of horse meat. The drugs do not provide a residual presence in the meat but only in the kidney. The U.S. has the Bioterrorism Act of 2002 to prevent adulterated foods to be imported into our country. How can the U.S. have these strict guidelines yet they continue to allow the horse industry to use the exported food chain distribute adulterated horse meat? It is unethical to dump horses with legal and illegal drugs into the human food chain.REPORT COMMENTS

Horse meat should NOT be allowed into the meat market. The only way to do that is to ban all slaughter of horses...period.REPORT COMMENTS

The Powerful Equine Drugs given to horses and contained as residues in horse"meat" are very injurious to human Health. These drugs are labeled by FDA as Not For Human Consumption. Horses are not raised for meat and should not be consumed in the US or Exported as food to any Country. The USDA should have no part in this.REPORT COMMENTS

Unwanted horses are a toxic waste by product of the US horse industry. This industry must take responsibility for safe and humane disposal of their unwanted horses. It is illegal, immoral and unethical to dispose of toxic waste by putting it into our food supply.REPORT COMMENTS

Please stop allowing export of our horses wild or domesticate. They are being slaughtered in border countries and being shipped global wide for human consumption. Those horses are treated with an assortment of medicines labeled "not for animals for human consumption" per our FDA. We are knowingly shipping for that purpose. Doing so we are contributing to illnesses far and wide while also receiving the same toxic meat back as imported meat. Now with the COOL act companies do not have yo label the country of origin. Aren't we being not only irresponsible to the world but yo our own Americans? Please pass the SAFE Acts HR 1942 and S1214 before the end of the 114th session. I agree with all other this petition as it is written here.REPORT COMMENTS

Thank you for your support for the S.A.F.E. Act. However, other senators and congressional representatives are keeping the S.A.F.E. Act from being brought to a vote and passage. I am concerned especially about the representatives of North Carolina. It is imperative that the S.A.F.E. act be brought to a vote and passed, that horses are not slaughtered in the U.S.A. or shipped to foreign countries for the purpose of being slaughtered, and that the USDA not receive funds to inspect horse slaughterhouses. This issue is very important to horse lovers, and it should be equally as important to non-horse lovers from a health standpoint. PLEASE do all you can to get the S.A.F.E. Act passed as soon as possible THIS YEAR!REPORT COMMENTS
