Given the growing (not shrinking) importance of understanding elections, political behavior, and the ways in which constituents and representatives interact, cutting NSF funding for Political Science is very simply a terrible mistake. It would not save any money long-term because the projects funded by NSF grants help to improve our political system and the understanding of it. The continual attempts by Senator Coburn to undermine the importance of education and research in this country is appalling and should be publicly denounced.Mar 18th, 2013Someone from Williamsburg, VA signed.

NSF funding provides critical support to important initiatives in political science that travel beyond the boundaries of academia and into practical policymaking and political participation. Those legislators who think it unimportant clearly do not understand that increasing our knowledge about politics benefits everyone, not just academics.REPORT COMMENTS

Science should not be a politicized activity. However, the proposal to remove NSF funding for the Political Science Program is an effort to do just that. Members of Congress should know better and it is appalling that they do not.REPORT COMMENTS

The research produced in political science is some of the most relevant research for U.S. government policy making decisions. To eliminate funding through the NSF for this research is tantamount to NASA eliminating funding for physical science research. Ludicrous.REPORT COMMENTS

Political Science research contributes quite a lot to reducing the cost of government while making it more effective and participative. Reducing support for research on evidence-based policy analysis and policy making would be beyond penny smart and pound foolish!REPORT COMMENTS

Ideology should not replace social science. Upon what else can progress or the evaluation of law be based? Research, even basic research, is what will keep America competitive, even social scientific research. This quite important.REPORT COMMENTS
