Political Science, as a discipline, is not sustainable without the government grants that form the basis of other social science disciplines. I have invested ten years into an academic career in political science, and the likelihood of my being able to find a job in this area without this funding is virtually eliminated. As a student of political science who has and will continue to benefit from National Science Foundation funding in many ways, I am appalled at the prospect that Congress would eliminate NSF funding for political science. Research conducted using NSF funds has been vital for both our understanding and improvement of democratic engagement in the United States, and congress members who oppose this funding clearly care little about promoting understanding and engagement in the political process in the United States.REPORT COMMENTS
