This is another political stunt. Please don't fall for it. I work at a state school, and these (modest) funding opportunities are very important to us. The (small/negligible) amount "saved"/put elsewhere is not worth throwing away the real contributions -- to fields and topics across the social and behavioral sciences -- made by political scientists.

The phenomena found in the study of governing systems are just as relevant to the improvement of the human condition as anything found in the physical sciences.

The work that my colleagues and I do helps determine the most effective way to educate and engage citizens in our democracy. The AAC&U and AASCU have both urge higher education to put citizenship education at the center of their missions. Recent research by the Carnegie Foundation has demonstrated that this can be done without ideologically shifts or indoctrination. My own research on civic education and engagement, and the research of colleagues on efficient and effective governance and citizen mobilization techniques, provides valuable information that strengthens our democratic republic.

Political science research is essential not just for political science, but for science policy and science communication in general. Blocking NSF funds would disturb studies on science communication, environmental communication, science and environmental psychology, and other essential studies for science.
