This is a national tragedy. Dogs are cherished, loved members of families. They are being murdered by the very public servants that are supposed to protect these families.

This has always been wrong and unnecessary. No one who behaves like this has any business being in law enforcement or near anything living. Sad. They are not doing anything wrong. Just merely being animals. Most are not even aggressive, just protective, and there are humane methods to get an animal to back off if need be. This is murder!

I was just made aware that Police officer's could just shot and kill animal's just because they carry a gun, you know animal's be at dog's , cat's or any animal none of them have a voice inany of this so that why we have to stand up for these precious animal's. Just remind's me of what Michael Vick did to all those poor dog's and he just got a slap on the rest, I personanlly think he should gotten at leasr 20 year's, if he wouls have just commited atempted murder on a human he would have gotten 20 year's to life, so something has to change I'm so tired of hearing about animal abuse. Let's do something about please!!

These cruel acts need to STOP! Police should not be so trigger happy, if animal control can handle a loose dog without killing it then so should our Police that WE pay with OUR tax dollars!!!

We the people pay these public servants with our tax dollars, it should not be to much to ask that they take a 2 hr video training that the postal carriers and delivery people and meter readers take to keep themselves and our pets safe. They are becoming to power hungry and trigger happy...if they are responding to a dog complaint, why do they not have the proper tools ready for that job instead of pulling a lethal weapon first...this is a sad state of affairs and needs to STOP, what if a child was chasing their dog around a coroner and a cop saw the dog and started shooting....Remember you work for the people and can be replaced by the people

When if anything they should be held at an ever higher standard due to the fact they are trained in the laws and are there to enforece them.

This is way overdue. Law enforcement agents must be trained in how to deal with the domestic animals that they will inevitably encounter. Shooting a pet that is protecting it's "person" or family or that is simply exhibiting normal dog behavior is unacceptable. Training is the answer.

We need a police force that does not act out of fear. Training them to react to domestic animals appropriately will help foster that.

Protecting the public means protecting the public's pets as well. You shoot my dog, you shoot me. Get it?

I think the police everywhere in the united states and across the country should be taking classes on how to tend to an aggressive dog. Its not just pitbulls that do it. They need to not kill our family members just because they are chicken or think they are going to attack them. Police need to pay attention to any signs that are poseted anywhere.

this craziness by police needs to stop they are murdering peoples dogs for no reason, I actually think they get off on it, anyone with half a brain knows a dog will bark at a stranger that doesnt mean you need to gun them down, how about wait for the owner to handle it!!! Too many of these dogs are shot in the back doesnt seem aggressive to me!!!!

A barking dog does not equal an agressive dog. There are visual clues, body language clues, that officers can be taught to read to distinguish between a dog about to attack and one who is simply aware of and alerting owners of something (or someone) unusual. Shooting and killing a family pet is no different to that family than shooting and killing a human child. It causes the same amount of devastation.
