I was in competition cheerleading and watching all the stunts they do. If they mess up tumbling or fall from a mount they could break several bones. Cheerleading should be considered a sport!Nov 4th, 2012Someone from Wyncote, PA signed.

I've cheered for 5 years and have always considered it a sport. If you think it's not youtube Worlds 2012. This isn't your same cheerleading as in the 60s. Even Highschool Varsity should be considered, yes you only see us sideline..but at practices(8-11 hours a week) and competition we do the same as Allstar. THIS NEED SO BE DEEMED AS A SPORT. THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY PEOPLE!REPORT COMMENTS

People have to look beyond the pom poms and chants. Cheerleading is a combination of dance and gymnastics, which are both sports, and then added to that are jumps and stunting. If ping pong or croquet is considered a sport, cheerleading must be. Instead of lifting weights like most athletes, we lift people who flip in the air above us. We risk breaking our noses if a flyer is loose in the air, and flyers risk breaking everything. In basket tosses, we get stepped on our knuckles and toss them to the roof then catch them. We also have no padding, even though soccer and volleyball do, yet what we do is like diving on land. We fake a smile on the mats while we're hurting, and shake off bruises. Cheerleading is not just cheering for football on the sidelines -- we cheer for OUR sport, not another one.REPORT COMMENTS

I have been cheerleading over half my life. I have always called it a sport considering how hard us cheerleaders work at practice for several hours a week.REPORT COMMENTS

Cheerleading is really important to me! I love being excited and it is just as dangerous as football or basketball. Someone could fall from a thigh stand or pyramid and get just as hurt as you could get playing football.REPORT COMMENTS

Cheereleading is my only athletic activity, and it definetly should be considered a sport. It is a lot of hard work and we try just as hard in cheer competitions as the boys we cheer for try to go to the championships! Cheerleading has to be a sport!REPORT COMMENTS

This is my second year being a cheerleader for my high school and as everyone who has done it knows, it IS a sport. 1.You have to tryout to make the squad. 2.You have to get a physical from the doctor. 3.We have a coach! 4.Every practice starts with stretching. 5.Back-hand springs and cartwheels to say the least 6.Stunting.REPORT COMMENTS
