I too was grandfathered back in 2007, and regardless was denied acceptance into the MECEP commissioning program. I already had an A.S. degree, putting me 2 years ahead of most applicants, and was promoted to SSgt in my 6th year in the Corps, so by no means a non-performer. This new policy placed serious limitations on my human potential and served to hold me back from pursuing my greatest level of success. As such, i left the Corps unsatisfied with the direction it was headed. But I also feel that as this policy is pure discrimination it should be stripped all together. No one, grandfathered or not, should be denied growth potential for any reason other than merit! The color of your skin, the color on your skin, Its a thin line.REPORT COMMENTS

Any man that is a proven leader should not be discriminated against and held back from training more leaders for our beloved Corps. If the Tattoos are not offending, vulgar or obscene and these standards are CLEARLY written for all Marines to follow then there is a solution. Good Men create Great Men and they go on to lead our Great Country.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a tattoo on my wrist that is keeping me from joining the marines. my tattoos doesn't offend anyone and i feel like people shouldn't be judged based on tattoos but by performance. Shouldn't judge a book by its cover.. could be the best marine there is .REPORT COMMENTS

I have half sleeves on both arms but wouldn't be allowed to join the Marines because of this. The Marines should do away with the tattoo rules PERIOD and let those enlist who wish to serve their country. Seems to me this regulation is the only thing in this day and age that still judges a person by tattoos and not by performance.REPORT COMMENTS

Did a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan and surpassed all requirements as a "normal" Marine. Pros and Cons were 4.7 4.7, expert shooter, brown belt, etc and yet I am not allowed back in the Marines because of tattoos? They rather keep a shitbag fat body with a clear body than somebody who is willing to go on and beyond for Corps and Country!! this needs to change ASAP!! I was forced to go Army because of this!!REPORT COMMENTS

I could not enlist into the marine corps because of the tattoo policy the corps currently holds. my tattoo only surpasses the vertebrae limit by 2cm. there should be a certain point where an individual can get a waiver. (PFC) Ray, united states Army.REPORT COMMENTS

As a Marine, I would like to say this is ****tarded. Tattoos have no influence on ones ability to kill another person. Who gives a shit. The only people that really care are the numnuts*****biters of the Corps who wont admit to being to affraid of geting one, so they want to ruin it for everyone else. This stupid******is way I joined the Army.REPORT COMMENTS

I don't see why the Marines should limit their warriors from tattoos they got, especially ones tattooed in the service! I see that they shouldn't be vulgar etc. But, as long as the person isn't one big tattoo platform, why not?REPORT COMMENTS

I am a former active duty Marine and am currently serving as a police officer in one of the largest cities in the state of Texas. I am very interested in re-enlisting in the Marine Corps, but, due to my tattoos, I have been told that I do not qualify. I joined the Corps in Oct 2003 and was tattooed by Oct 2004. When I was released (EAS, honorably discharged) in 2007, I was told that I could re-enlist whenever I wanted to. These new rules have now disqualified an honorably discharged Marine Corps Sgt who wishes to continue his service to God, Country, and Corps. I am 26 years old and in great fighting shape. Please give me direction in getting back into the fight. Semper Fi, William Jackman Sgt, USMCREPORT COMMENTS
