I had never been in trouble before I ended up with a Felony conviction. I was 22yr old sheltered young women at that time, that ended up around the wrong people. I trusted them and ended up with a transporting drug felony, it never seemed real! Spent two weeks in jail, due to being a first offender. Since then and before then I was a productive member of society, worked and never in trouble. It's been 15yrs and not so much as a traffic ticket, but still can't get the jobs that my finance degree say's I should have. All I want is to lead the life I was always meant to lead, until I unfortunately made that one mistake in my entire life! Again never been in any trouble before or after, can I please move on with my life without this hanging over my head. Haven't I more than paid the price, please help me succeed. I'm doing all the work, I just need you to understand and let me move on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.

I'm a Bail Bondsman, I agree with this bill, bad things happen to good people and we all make mistakes. First time, non violent offenders should be given a second chance at life once they have paid their debts.

First time non-violent offenders who have paid their debt to society deserve a second chance.

Where would we be if God did not give second chances?

Permanent punishment for offenders will always be around with technology as it is today. Information is in too many computer systems to completely clear anyone. Many applications and other documents ask if you have ever been arrested. They do not worry about if you have been convicted or not. It is now "guilty until you have money to prove your innocence." First off, what is considered nonviolent? My husband was let out of a federal penitentary early on a drug charge because he was a nonviolent offender. Someone who had been caught with drugs testified in court that he had sold drugs to him and three others. There were no drugs involved, no phone calls, no anything except this man's word. Each man had always worked and had families dependent upon them. All received four years except the one with the drugs who got probation. Once my husband was out on parole, the parole officer came to the house and had my husband sign a sheet of paper stating that he was a violent offender because drugs are considered violent. I objected stating that he was released early because he was not considered a violent offender. I wanted to put an asterisk on the paper stating this, and that he was signing in protest because she said he absolutely had to sign it; but she would not allow me to do this. The parole officer said everyone with a drug charge had to sign. He reluctantly signed because he did not want to get revoked. She also gave him an identification card to put in a safe place for if we had to evacuate for a hurricane he would have to go to the police where we evacuated to with it to show he was a violent offender. I was furious. I told her we would never evacuate because of this. So, my question is how can you be let out of a federal pen for not being a violent offender but then having to sign you are one? Anyway, I understand why the petition is here because it does mess up not just the person's life, but the family's life as well. But, if it is only meant for those "white collared" thieves I am against it. I believe once a person has been sentenced he has paid for the crime. Start passing these bills that are really "for the people."

The last time the US did something like this, it was the Great Society. They ended up with concentration camps. I certainly understand that the information is necessary for systemic change, but I question their motivations
