I am 55yrs old and have 34yrs with the government 27 of those as a Police Officer with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the last 19yrs as a Lieutenant and have the Training Coordinator for the past 15yrs. I have never understood what makes my job any less important or dangerous than any other LEO. If you don't think try visiting the VA Police LETC and chrck the monument in the main lobby which listvghe names of 7 VA Police Officers killed in the line of duty.REPORT COMMENTS

As a Federal Police Officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, I am directly responsible for the protection of personnel and property under Federal jurisdiction. This is to include vehicle identification checkpoints, vehicle patrol, uniformed and undercover patrols and fixed posts. I am also responsible for issuance of summonses for violations and or make arrests accordingly. Regular duties also include preliminary investigations, preparation of reports for incidents and accidents, non-criminal Police emergencies and arrests. Trained and authorized in the Oleoresin Capsicum weapon, pr-24 side handle baton, and the 9mm firearm. For this and many other reasons, my coworkers and I should be granted Law Enforcement Officer status.REPORT COMMENTS
