It is not fair to punish me, a hard-working teacher and single head of household mother, because teaching does not pay enough to raise a child and take care of an elderly parent. I do not choose to work two jobs; it is a neccessity.

If I pay into Social Security, I should, or my spouse should, receive the benefits. It should not go to those who have not paid into the system.

Call me simple, but it seems very easy: If I have paid into Social Security for 35 years, I should receive Social Security benefits. If I don't pay into Social Security, I should not receive the benefits.

Please repeal the Government Offset Provision and the Windfall Elimination Provision. The WEP is ridiculous because a windfall is something totally unexpected, like winning the lottery. I earned and paid SS for 10 years prior to becoming a firefighter which I retired from after 27 years. I EARNED both pensions. They should rename these provision the YOU EARNED IT BUT WE DON'T FEEL LIKE PAYING YOU P. Plea

Please repeal the unfair provisions called the Government Pension Offset(GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision(WEP). These are unfair to working spouses of civil servants, and the government employees who have dedicated years of their lives to serving the public.

The ltr from the firefighter is disturbing. He SHOULD get both of HIS benefits. I wonder what the teacher is TX is getting each month from her work. Sorry, the woman who stayed home for 31 years to raise her chidren was lucky. Now, perhaps people can understand how gays get the boots from pension funds. That isn't fair either. I get zinged every month on MY OWN work record too. Also, illegal aliens are not by law permitted to get SSI. SSI is the bane of the give away system. A lot of people got paid under the table, paid no taxes. At 65 or whatever, they get SSI, Medicaid and are home free. Poor dopes likes us haul the freight for them.........

This is simply an unfair law, if a person has enough quarters, they should get the benefit they have earned. To not do this, is just wrong.

To deny survivor benefits to widows/widowers because they were teachers is grossly inequitable.

Most people have this all wrong. A person always gets his or her own SSA benefits. The problem arises when usually she believes she is being cheated out of her husbands benefits. You see, he paid FICA and Medicare for one person, himself. Anything the spouse gets is from the General Find. Remember, she has her own benefits. Think about this...he paid for 1 person and gets his benefits, she paid for 1 person and gets her benefits, what is so wrong with that? Unfairness is when a person pays into SSA,Railroad and or Civil Service retirement and gets an offset on their own earnings. Also people should stop calling SSI, their SSI. SSI is a federal welfare program. Nobody pays into SSI. It is just a government give away program for people who have no retirement benefits they paid into. Disability payments are a horse of a different color. Some people need help. That is a fact. I have a problem with junkies and drunks getting SSA/SSI by claiming they have emotional problems. If people want to complain, so for it but get your facts straight.

As a disabaled fire fighter I can not receive a full S.S. benefit because of offset. I have worked outside the fire department for many years to supplement my income. I have contributed to S.S. by employee and self employment contrabutions for a large portion of my career. If I am ineligible for S.S. please refund all of the money I have contributed.

This is an unfair law. Individuals paying Social security taxes by payroll deductions should receive the benefits earned under those payments irregardless of government pensions not subject to social security taxes. That individual will be receiving a lesser amount of social security simply because of his/her earnings subject to social security taxes. To take away the ability to receive benefits paid for is wrong.

THIS BILL IS ONLY FAIR, I HAD PAID INTO SS FOR 18 YEARS. iTS NOT FAIR TO REDUCE MY SS BECAUSE I CONTINUE TO PAY THE MEDICARE SECTION AND MANY PEOPLE COME TO THIS COUNTRY AND RECEIVED SSI BENEFITS THAT HAVE NOT PAID INTO IT. HOW RIGHT IS THAT TO AMERICANS?

I worked in the private sector for 18 years, my deceased husband for 35 years. We both paid into Social Security. Later I worked for Orange County Children and Family Services for 11 years and now my Social Security has been reduced from $1700 as a widow, to $520. I am penalized more than $14,000 a year although my husband and I together worked more than 53 years and contributed to Social Security during that time. Please repeal these grossly inequitable provisions.

I worked at a City job for 5 years and contributed to my retirement under PERS; at 62 I became disabled, but thought I would wait to apply for my PERS retirement until 65; now they're telling me that to receive about $275/mo. that they might take away a part or the equivalent of this benefit from my social security payment of only $798/mo. This is absurd, and is a penalty for having worked a civil service job for only a few years! Please stop this absurdity by repelling the GPO and WEP provisions.

I was a stay-at-home wife and mother (4 kids)for most of 31 years. Widowed at 51, went to work till age 70 at a city job and lost all my widow's SS benefit at retirement. This is not offset, but nullification. I am now retired on a pension of 18.9 years and only a reduced benefit (WEP) on my own meagre SS record of $144. If Congress can find money for TARP, etc., why not us......? No more excuses! You don't have money for the stimulus, health care, etc. either.

I support this bill as I have lost out on some money and its not our fault that where we worked was not in Social Security. They don't pay us a bigger pension because of it.

After 35 years as a public school teacher in Texas, where low teacher pay is the norm, and after qualifying on my own work record in other employment for Social Security, I am again being penalized for choosing public service by being denied the Social Security Reirement benefits I have earned. Disgraceful.

It is difficult to get along these days on a small federal pension and 40% of my social security which I paid into for 24 years.
