What's taking place is absolutely barbaric! Why are people being punished because their sick? What happened to doctors caring for their patients? This is so sad. Unbelievable really, in this day and age!

Please help chronic pain patients keep their medications. We are not addicts, but take pain medications to live a somewhat normal life. By labeling us all together you are putting us in a category that we don't belong.

None of us who need opioids would use them if they weren't necessary. The only positive quality of life I have is when I regularly take them. I am so fearful that my doctor will retire and I won't find another doctor who cares as much as he does. The War on Drugs needs to end and the War on Chronic Pain patients also needs to end. The last I knew the DEA and the CDC are not doctors and therefore perhaps we should take up a class action lawsuit against them for practicing medicine without a license. We are slowly but surely being killed off by the pain we live with every day. I would like every DEA and CDC staffer along with non-prescribing doctors to live with my level of pain everyday (without any pain relief) and see how they feel. I bet they'd change their judgmental tune very fast.

Is there a lawsuit of medical malpractice against the doctors, that refuses to prescribe pain medication to chronic pain patients in the near future? A also is their any lawyers willing to sue, politicians, and Doctor's, for failing to provide adequate treatment to their patients?

As a healthcare worker since 1989, I have been aware of pain patients being judged, fairly or not, as drug seekers and abusers for most of my adult life. This knowledge has prevented me from legitimately seeking help for my own chronic pain. The few doctors to whom I have asked for help with differing pain issues have been seemingly unconcerned with my reports of such, therefore, I have been reluctant to be more aggressive in my search for relief. I once lived with the intense pain of a bulging disc in my lower spine that further led to the inability to bend forward and an almost complete numbness of my left leg from hip to toe, for three full months due to my fear of requesting pain treatment and the fear of being either misjudged as an abuser or having my concerns dismissed as not worthy of treatment. I personally have had recurring headaches and lower back pain issues since prepubescent childhood. Perhaps I have a lower pain threshold than many people that causes me more pain problems. But that should not be a reason for my pain to be left untreated. So now as I approach my fifth decade of living, and then my senior years, I am and will be having more frequent and more serious physical issues that can cause greater and more persistent pain, I am going to have even more difficulty getting help due to the fear that doctors have of being disciplined for legitimately helping to anyone complaining of pain. I have heard recently that many prescription opioid users have turned to street drugs for relief. Is that really the solution to drug abuse? To simply adjust the scales to redistribute where the blame is? So that we can now call a larger group of people abusers and illegal drug users? To clear the names of policymakers and politicians of the irresponsibility of implementing a poor idea that clearly doesn't work (prohibition of substances) by making it even broader and more diligently enforced? Prohibition has never worked historically. I can't understand why politicians keep trying to use policies that a simple history lesson will show as futile. And, though I have never personally purchased illegal drugs before, that may be a future answer for relief of pain for myself and many of the millions of pain sufferers surrounding all of us. Now, how will we address the rising numbers of crimes due to the illegal drug industry? Oooh, I know! More drug laws! Then we can displace the blame onto law enforcement agencies for not being able to control the huge and ever growing problem that we created but refuse to acknowledge. Yeah, that will probably work...

Doctor Charles yes I have heard that their will be new opoid free medications for back fibro nerve ect. However pain meds will always be needed. As far as resetting receptors I do this 1 time a year to stay on a minimal dose of opoids it's just common sense so opoids are available to all in need. As far as I am concerned it's the pain management doctors who way over prescribe you did not state what type of Doctor you are. PM had me on excessive amounts of opoids but my regular MD was great and I have been in pm for about 25 years which keep being closed down for over dispensing anyway. No matter how you cut it pain medication will always be essential

Joshua that is terrible. My wife takes subutex she started on suboxone but has frequent kidney stones so doc switched her in case of an emergency. Her doctor uses it for pain in some cases as of course he is well aware of the opioid problem. Talk to the prescribing doctor and see if he will say it is being used to treat your pain not addiction. They can use it for addiction or pain. The spinal fusionso sucks and never work anyway but no way in hell can you have one with no pain meds that's just crazy. Wishing you luck

So I just found out that I have to get yet another major lumbar fusion except this time they are fusing L4-5 as well as revising the L5 fusion and no doctor will help me manage my chronic pain until my surgery. I have been enduring this agonizing pain while on suboxone for the past year. I originally entered the suboxone clinic to help get me off of pain medicine because of a major dependence issue. The previous surgeon and primary doctor along with pain management clinic didn't once help me titrate off the medicine. In short my original lumbar fusion failed and my continued need for pain medication quote "alarmed" the physicians. Ever since I have been on the suboxone every doctor has labeled me an addict. I am in desperate need of pain relief and can't deal with these doctors treating me literally like garbage anymore. I am beyond dumbfounded that I have major issues with my back and it's more than documented, there's surgery in the near future; however, they won't provide pain management? I just recently got denied pain treatment at a pain clinic in eastern Washington and was treated horribly.

The only way for most to understand what we go through day to day and year after year is to experience it themselves. We visit doctors, hospitals and require treatments because that's what we have to have to attempt to function and get through the day and in my case at times it's needed to get through the hour.

uDr. Charles, if you even are a dr, you sir should be ashamed of yourself! You drs should be sticking up for your pain pts, pain from DEBILITATING INCURABLE CONDITIONS! What our government is doing to the chronically ill is GENOCIDE! This past week alone Ive read of 5 suicides and 3 who attemtped it, to ESCAPE THE SEVERE DEBILITATING PAIN! SUICIDE SHOULD NEVER BE AN OPTION WHEN THERE IS MEDICATION THAT WORKS FOR OUR PAINFUL CONDITIONS! Stating that dependence and addiction are one in the same shows you must have gotten your dgree out of the cracker jacks box. The DEA/government has NO right to come between a patient and their dr and what is prescribed. All hell will be breaking loose soon if this unethical, INHUMANE TORTURE ON AMERICAN CITIZENS CONTINUES! LEGITIMATE PAIN PTS ARE NOT THE ONES RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEA FAILED WAR ON DRUGS AND YET WE ARE BEING FORCED A LIFE OF SEVERE PAIN UNTIL WE DIE! I pray all of you corrupt penpushers in Washington will know what severe never ending pain is like, or your loved ones, But then again you people are so corrupt you have drs and pharmacies in your back pockets and are not put thru the demeaning, degrading, abusive, neglectful and discrimination treatment. God sees all. You all will have the higher up to answer to for the many lives you have KILLED! INNOCENT LAW abiding chronically ill people are being sent to their graves because of your barbaric guidelines and stripping legitimate pain pts of our LIFESAVING PAIN MEDICATION! How do you people sleep at night knowing you are inflicting harm, pain and suffering onto the disabled, our VETS, WHO FOUGHT FOR YOUR DAM FREEDOM, our senior citizens, and people of all walks of life whose bodies are broken down with INCURABLE DEBILITATING CONDITIONS!! How do you sleep at night knowing that somewhere in this country another life is being lost to suicide due to INADEQUATE PAIN RELIEF! Those deaths just go unnoticed right!? You are all so concerned about addicts, who CHOOSE TO ABUSE AND DESTROY THEIR BODIES, and probably most do NOT want your dam help! They will continue to abuse whatever they want. All these restricitions, and DENYING LEGITIMATE PAIN PTS OUR LIFESAVING MEDS IS NOT DOING A DAM THING TO CURB ADDICTION NOR WILL IT EVER! You people in Washington are to blame for the heroin taking over our country! You people in Washington and the DEA are probably the ones responsible for the heroin laced fentanyl and deadly pills surfacing killing so many people. Our government innfact poisoned alcohol during the prohibition of alcohol, killing thousands and thousands of people. I don't doubt for a second its our own government killing us. The DEA needs to be dismantled all they are doing is bringing more harm to the sick. NONE OF YOU CARRY A MEDICAL DEGREE SO WHYNTHE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHATS BEST FOR ME!? Limiting opiods to the same dose for all is UNACCEPTABLE! Do any of you take into account that every person tolerates pain and medication differently!? M

I am a disabled vet with left renal vein entrapment syndrome that brought on pelvic congestion syndrome These give me kidney pain left leg and foot pain extreme pain from my ovarian collateral veins it also gives me spinal pain from my spinal collateral veins not to mention that before this I already had a serious back injury that causes excruciating pain as well as sciatica now to top it off I have gallstones. One stone is huge and I'm in constant pain but I cannot have my gallbladder removed until I get a clearance from neurology which will take several months because they have to send me for testing for possible autonomic disorder from my left renal vein entrapment syndrome. I asked my doctor if he can give me for something for pain he told me I have to go to pain management and through no fault of my own have had to suffer for months like this. I can't live like this any longer this is nothing short of evil what the government and the doctors are doing do people like us

Back pain has been remodeled and there will be no more opiates for back pain fibro. also. They have new nonopoid meds coming out for these and many other conditions and they do work. Try to reset your receptors because this is far from over. We will now live in a new opoid free world with many other alternatives.

I'm a disabled vet, USMC. I PAY for my family's medical treatment at Kaiser. I have been dealing with my pain for nearly 30 years. I worked with the USMC, VA and finally Kaiser for the first 10 years to work out an effective strategy for managing my pain so I can work for a living, which includes keeping Percocet available SHOULD I NEED IT. Irrespective thanks to the GOVERNMENT being the NANNY STATE, now Kaiser has decided to STOP providing my medicine (started ONLY because I got a new doctor because mine changed and went back to E.R.). The new doctors, hypnotized by the current administration, happily say we should start at square one AGAIN, Back 30 YEARS, BACK to the pain and non-stop ER visits and curled up in a ball on the floor, throwing up from the pain, throbbing migraine - All because some IDIOT her and there overdoes - the REST of us SUFFER? So NOT I can't work? Because Why? What the hell is WRONG with you politicians. GET THE HELL OUT OF MY DOCTORS OFFICE. And Doctors: QUIT BEING COWARDS! Quality of life / being able to have a pain tolerable day IS A GOAL - NOT YOUR Arrogance saying "well.... you should just learn to live with it".. STFU - YOU take this type of pain daily for NO REASON other than SOMEONE ELSES ARROGANCE.

What those who do not have to suffer from chronic pain do not realize is that dependence and addiction are not the same thing. Individuals with severe chronic pain depend on pain medication in order to live. These individuals do not use pain meds to get high like an addict, they take them to reduce their pain level so that they will be able to function like a somewhat normal human being for a period of time.

I've had RSD since 2004. Pain is rated higher than cancer pain on McGill pain chart. My meds have been reduced thanks to new rules and I no longer have quality life. I can't go anywhere or do anything spending most days in bed. Ibelieve they want pain patients to die. I have considered ending my life if no one will help.
