I lost my husband in 2010 to a tragic automobile accident! 3 days is by far not enough and wouldn't have been for me! They sent him to do an autopsy and I found out on a Tuesday and didnt get him in our local funeral home until Thursday afternoon late! We didn't put him out until Friday and he was buried Saturday...I would have needed 5 days minimum with no time to grieve after his actual funeral! Please assist us and many future widows/widowers in this request!REPORT COMMENTS

My husband and i were both 33 years old when he was shot and killed while working as a sheriff's deputy attempting to apprehend a murder suspect running from the law several counties away. I went back to work 2 weeks after he was killed and could only stay at work a few hours at a time. I worked another few months and had to reduce my hours from full-time to part-time because not only was in dealing with my grief, but also my two young children. I have continued to work part-time and we are now 3.5 years after his death. Grief is a journey not just a process and its a lifelong journey. Research and counselors state that children go through the grief process each time they hit a new growth phase in life...so we will continue to ride the grief roller coaster for many more years. We have learned we can still enjoy life while remembering and honoring our hero!!REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my husband to cancer at the age of 41. Death of a spouse is listed as number one as a stressful life experience. Three days is ridiculous and cruel.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband died very suddenly in March 2012. I was so worried about keeping my job and being able to support my young sons that I went back to work three weeks after my husband's death. I was a mess and the stress of having to go back to work was an additional fear and worry that I did not need. I hope you will pass this law so that widows in the future do not have to go through what I did.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband died suddenly, out of state, when I was 36. three days later and I hadn't even gotten his body back to our home town. FMLA needs to allow grieving spouses more time to gather strength before returning o work.REPORT COMMENTS
