I run a very large group on Facebook for young widows and widowers, many of whom indicate they find the amount of leave granted to them absolutely absurd!Aug 21st, 2013Someone from Syracuse, UT signed.

I lost my husband and had to care for our 10 month old son alone. those around me made it even harder for me. I was all alone, grieving and trying to keep it all together for our son. I was luckily in a position where I did not have to work, but if I was forced to do it, I would was such a mess no one would have hired me. This needs to be in place because I have several widow friends who had to go back to work too and life is to precious to worry about other people's problems while you are fighting to deal with yours.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree this should be covered under FMLA with agreement from the employee to show supporting documentation to the employer if requested.REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my 34 yr old husband unexpectedly in 1/2012 after battling a short illness. My employer was very supportive of what I needed and even returning to work w/ that was hard enough. I pray this gets added for anyone else who unfortunately has to learn to be a widow.REPORT COMMENTS

A young widow myself, I cannot believe that death of a spouse is not included in FMLA. That is a huge oversight. As well as death of a parent or child for that matter. Let's use some common sense here people.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband died unexpectedly 07/2011. I was given three days notice that I had to return to my job as a career college instructor or risk losing it. I look back on that time as being mentally unfit to teach.REPORT COMMENTS
